{"id":340517,"date":"2025-12-29T06:15:13","date_gmt":"2025-12-29T06:15:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/340517\/"},"modified":"2025-12-29T06:15:13","modified_gmt":"2025-12-29T06:15:13","slug":"mike-tyson-names-the-heavyweight-who-hit-harder-than-larry-holmes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/340517\/","title":{"rendered":"Mike Tyson Names The Heavyweight Who Hit Harder Than Larry Holmes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Heavyweight great <a href=\"https:\/\/www.secondsout.com\/topic\/mike-tyson\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mike Tyson<\/a> has revealed the one fighter that punched even harder than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.secondsout.com\/topic\/larry-holmes\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Larry Holmes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.secondsout.com\/news\/heavyweight-on-tyson-holmes-power\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tyson and Holmes locked horns at the Convention Hall in Atlantic City back in January of 1988<\/a>, although it was no secret that \u2018The Easton Assassin\u2019 was past his formidable best at this point in his career.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Iron Mike\u2019 wasted no time in dispatching of his countryman at that iconic venue in New Jersey, stopping him in the fourth round of their clash to retain undisputed heavyweight championship for the second time.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The Easton Assassin\u2019 challenged unsuccessfully for the world heavyweight championship on two further occasions before his career came to an end in 2002, falling short to both Oliver McCall and Evander Holyfield.<\/p>\n<p>In a feature with The Ring Magazine, Tyson overlooked Holmes when revealing the hardest puncher that he ever shared a ring with, naming none other than Evander Holyfield.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe threw terrific shots with both hands and with bad intentions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tyson and Holyfield fought each other twice within a seven month period between November 1996 and the following June.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The Real Deal\u2019 stopped Tyson in the penultimate round of their initial showdown for the WBA world heavyweight title in Las Vegas, igniting one of the most memorable rivalries in boxing history.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/sport1\/hi\/boxing\/1636676.stm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Their rematch came just months later<\/a> and despite the hype that had surrounded it, the fight itself ended in major controversy when Tyson was disqualified for biting Holyfield\u2019s ears in a bizarre moment which is now commonly known as \u2018The Bite Fight\u2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Heavyweight great Mike Tyson has revealed the one fighter that punched even harder than Larry Holmes.
