{"id":342836,"date":"2025-12-30T13:09:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-30T13:09:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/342836\/"},"modified":"2025-12-30T13:09:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-30T13:09:08","slug":"rival-prem-club-enter-dan-du-preez-transfer-tug-of-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/342836\/","title":{"rendered":"Rival PREM club enter Dan du Preez transfer tug-of-war"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/sharks\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sharks<\/a> could face late heartbreak in their bid to land <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/sale\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sale<\/a> Sharks No.8 Dan du Preez after Gallagher PREM champions <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/bath\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bath<\/a> made a last-minute bid to snatch him from under their noses.<\/p>\n<p>Durban-born Du Preez, 30, who stands at 6\u20195 and weighs 17st 9lb who joined the Sharks after leaving Kearsney College in KwaZulu-Natal, making 54 appearances before linking up with brothers Rob and Jean-Luc in Manchester.<\/p>\n<p>But he has struggled with injuries over the past couple of seasons, and he has made only four appearances for the club this season, bringing his total to 118 since signing in July 2019.<\/p>\n<p>And he will be the last of the three brothers to leave Sale, with twin Jean-Luc already playing for Bordeaux, where he was linked with a move in 2024, and fly-half Rob, who is joining <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/top-14\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Top 14<\/a> outfit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/bayonne\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bayonne<\/a> next summer.<\/p>\n<p>The Sharks, who are losing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/siya-kolisi\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Siya Kolisi<\/a> to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/stormers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Stormers<\/a> in July, have been looking for a big-ball carrying to bolster their squad and have been in advanced talks with du Preez, but treble winners Bath have made a late move.<\/p>\n<p>It would be a blow for the Sharks, who have had a revival since new head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/jp-pietersen\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">JP Pietersen<\/a> took over from John Plumtree, beating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/saracens\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Saracens<\/a> and the Bulls.<\/p>\n<p>And they hope to extend that record when the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/lions\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lions<\/a> visit Durban on Saturday, which would see them put more daylight between themselves and the bottom of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/united-rugby-championship\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">United Rugby Championship<\/a> table.<\/p>\n<p>Du Preez made history when he won the first of his six Springbok caps against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/france\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">France<\/a> in 2017.
