TV Zone UK,<\/a> writer and creator of the BBC show, Heidi Thomas, announced the plans at a press screening for the upcoming 15th series of the show.\n<\/p>\n\n She shared: “No, there won’t be a Christmas special next Christmas, not in the traditional mould.”\n<\/p>\n
\n Call the Midwife producer Pippa Harries then confirmed that the new prequel series would debut during Christmas.\n<\/p>\n
\n Thomas added: “This is really just a very temporary pause in the usual pattern.”\n<\/p>\n
\n The prequel was previously confirmed by the BBC, as well as a new film.\n<\/p>\n
\n The new show will be set in Poplar, in London during World War Two and will air in 2026.\n<\/p>\n
\n While the film will include the cast of the TV series, and will be set in 1972.\n<\/p>\n
\n The news of the Christmas special comes ahead of the release of the 15th series.\n<\/p>\n
\n The new series of Call the Midwife will air on Sunday, 11 January at 8 pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.\n<\/p>\n
\n The 15th series will follow up on the recent Christmas special that saw members of the Nonnatus House visit Hong Kong.\n<\/p>\n
\n The official synopsis for the upcoming series reads: “As the Christmas action shifts between the sun-drenched Far East and a snowy East End, Sister Julienne suddenly finds herself excited about the Order\u2019s future.\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\n “After years of battling change, she decides to embrace it, work with it, and see what love can do.\n<\/p>\n
\n “This change of energy reverberates throughout series 15. The new series kicks off in 1971 with several of the ladies embracing Women\u2019s Lib and burning their bras outside Nonnatus House.\n<\/p>\n
