A message removed from a wall in Co Londonderry was a \u201cdisgusting slogan of hate\u201d, a local councillor has said. <\/p>\n
The slogan \u2013 which read \u201cSink the Dingys\u201d (sic) \u2013 was scrawled onto a wall in the Main Street area of Moneymore.<\/p>\n

Mid Ulster District Councillor Christine McFlynn took to social media on Tuesday to confirm the message had now been painted over.<\/p>\n
Ms McFlynn thanked the local community for informing her of the graffiti. <\/p>\n
“We have just celebrated Christmas the most peaceful time of the year, a time for family and yet a disgusting slogan of hate appeared damaging property, an attack on our new community who choose to live amongst us, work in our medical professions and industry,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The graffiti has since been painted over<\/p>\n
“The PSNI have been in Moneymore today investigating this crime. They will be checking CCTV from local businesses and I ask the local community if you witnessed anything to please get in touch.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe slogan has been painted over, Moneymore is a very welcoming village and certainly doesn\u2019t want or need this activity.\u201d<\/p>\n
The PSNI has confirmed it is treating the incident as a hate crime.<\/p>\n
“Police in Magherafelt received a report of criminal damage in Moneymore on Tuesday, December 30,\u201d said a spokesperson.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was reported that graffiti had been daubed on a wall of a building on Main Street. Police are currently treating this as a hate crime.<\/p>\n
