Coronation Street viewers were heartbroken after emotional scenes aired on the ITV<\/a> soap. It’s been a whirlwind time on the cobbles for Todd Grimshaw and Theo Silverton which resulted in a life-changing moment on New Year’s Eve. The two characters have taken centre stage in recent months as part of a hard-hitting storyline tacking the problem of domestic abuse in a same sex relationship.<\/p>\n Things have escalated<\/a> in recent weeks in harrowing scenes which saw Theo smash Todd’s head into a mirror. They ended up paying a visit to hospital where Theo manipulated Todd into thinking it was his own fault.<\/p>\n Other distressing scenes included Theo stuffing a kebab into Todd’s mouth and even going as far as pouring a bottle of milk over his head.<\/a><\/p>\n However, viewers were shocked when Todd got down on one knee on New Year’s Eve to ask his partner the all-important question. The residents all raised a glass to the happy couple as Todd and Theo shared a surprising and heartwarming moment in the Rovers Return.<\/a><\/p>\n But things soon took a darker turn on New Year’s Da<\/a>y when a minor misunderstanding turned into a horrifying outburst.<\/a><\/p>\n Billy and Summer were having a morning brew at Todd and Theo’s before Summer accidentally spilled her drink on their carpet. While Theo remained calm in their presence, Todd received the terrifying after-effects of the incident.<\/p>\n After Theo’s two-faced “Tara” to the guests, his persona soon transformed and Todd found himself on the floor as he was his kicked and beaten by his fianc\u00e9.<\/a><\/p>\n Viewers found the scene difficult to watch, with some “heartbroken” by the emotional outburst<\/a>. Taking to social media during the episode, one fan said: “That Todd and Theo scene” with a heartbroken emoji.<\/p>\n A second said: “Corrie are doing a fantastic job with the Todd and Theo storyline, both acting it brilliantly. It\u2019s horribly disturbing to watch\u2026”<\/p>\n A third said: “This Todd and Theo storyline is so sad” and a fourth added: “Todd being hurt by Theo is hard to watch. Abuse is abuse\u2014no excuses, no silence. This storyline matters and Todd deserves safety, support, and a way out. Stand with him.”<\/p>\n A fifth wrote: “I couldn’t watch that scene, found it very unsettling and uncomfortable viewing. But praise for #Corrie<\/a> tackling such an important subject. Gareth and James are delivering compelling performances. Very chilling how Theo subtly gaslights amd paints Todd as the one in the wrong.”<\/p>\n Despite being in physical pain, Todd seemed to be the one apologising<\/a> to Theo after his partner managed to gaslight him into forgiveness.<\/p>\n Todd told his partner: “We’re bad for each other, the worst.” Theo begged Todd to stay in the relationship, telling him: “There’s so much good in our relationship.
