Yungblud<\/a> has teamed up with The Smashing Pumpkins<\/a> for a rocked-up rendition of his hit \u2018Zombie<\/a>\u2018 \u2013 check it out below.<\/p>\n

The reimagined version sees the Doncaster singer-songwriter (aka Dom Harrison) swapping vocals with Billy Corgan<\/a> over roaring guitars on the hit from his recent album \u2018IDOLS\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cYungblud\u2019s star shines bright, so it\u2019s been great fun to lend our zig-zag voice to his \u2018Zombie\u2019 which he\u2019s said was inspired by one of our own\u201d, said Corgan. \u201cHence the encouragement that we make this rendition as personal as possible and I\u2019m proud to say we\u2019ve done that; if only to honor him in return.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yungblud added: \u201c\u2019Siamese Dream\u2019 was an album that was there for me more than I could ever explain when I was growing so to be making music with the band that created it is really quite hard to comprehend. Billy has always been such a massive inspiration to me but more recently a huge mentor of mine. His outlook on the importance of truth in art is something that I\u2019ve always held close to my heart.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Zombie\u2019 is the most important song of \u2018IDOLS\u2019 to me. It\u2019s deeply personal and it was heavily influenced by The Smashing Pumpkins\u2019 ability to mix emotion, cinema and heavy guitars. I sent Billy an email, asking if he would re-imagine this song with me and when he agreed to it, it was a dream come true. To watch one of my idols work on something that I had written was one of the greatest honours of my life. I love that this new version of \u2018Zombie\u2019 is heavier, it has Billy Corgan\u2019s iconic guitar sound, it has more urgency and it rips my heart out. I\u2019m so proud of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

An official music video of the team up, directed by Charlie Sarsfield, is due to drop later today (January 2).<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

It comes after Yungblud first crossed paths with Corgan during Black Sabbath<\/a>\u2018s farewell concert \u2018Back To The Beginning\u2019 in Birmingham last summer<\/a>, where both artists took part in tributes honouring Ozzy Osbourne<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Their connection, however, dates further back \u2013 with Corgan first discovering Yungblud through a live performance video and instantly recognising his raw potential.<\/p>\n

In a 2023 interview with Allison Hagendorf, Corgan spoke openly about the latter\u2019s trajectory, noting, \u201cI can tell where he\u2019s going, and if I\u2019m right, we\u2019ll be talking about him for the next 50 years.\u201d<\/p>\n

More recently, Yungblud appeared on\u00a0Corgan\u2019s podcast The Magnificent Ones, where he likened Yungblud\u2019s evolution<\/a> to that of Elton John<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Corgan said at the time: \u201cThis is the person that I most compare you to\u2026 Elton John. And what I mean by that is you can sing pop, you can sing a ballad and that crowd will go with you. You could do a \u2018Tiny Dancer\u2019-type song and it would feel great and credible but you can also sing rock.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also explored how the two of them saw their fanbase grow exponentially after the swap to rock music, and the journey is one that explained why Sir Elton \u201chit that other level and why he was a stadium act and not just a big pop act.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sharing his gratitude for the comparison, Yungblud said that the comments blew his mind, and caught him off guard as he also noticed more fans since turning his sights to rock.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt goes to a deeper level and I think that\u2019s what\u2019s kind of beautiful,\u201d he said, going on to share how he was first introduced to rock music as a child as his dad owned a guitar shop.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a kid from a guitar shop whose education was\u00a0T. Rex<\/a>,\u00a0Bowie<\/a>,\u00a0Sex Pistols<\/a>, The Exploited,\u00a0The Clash<\/a>\u00a0moving to me finding\u00a0NWA<\/a>, shoegaze, bands like you and\u00a0Public Enemy<\/a>\u00a0and everything myself, who dreamt about it,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

He also added how he had been inspired by Corgan too, and that it was his music that came as some of the inspiration to embrace more of a rock sound. \u201cHonestly, you were such a massive part of that turning point,\u201d he said, recalling hearing Corgan talk about him and his vocal ability on Allison Hagendorf\u2019s podcast.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you hear someone you look up to, an idol you look up to, go, \u2018I think it\u2019s time for him to sing, I think it\u2019s time for him to do a rock album\u2019\u2026 I was like, \u2018Oh, finally I can really lean into [that].\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
