George Clooney<\/a> has hit back at criticism from US President Donald Trump<\/a>, over his recent successful application for French citizenship.<\/p>\n

The Jay Kelly<\/a> star, his wife Amal and their two children, were confirmed as citizens last week (December 29) according to an official decree in France\u2019s government gazette via The Guardian.<\/a><\/p>\n

It comes after Clooney recently told RTL radio last month: \u201cI love the French culture, your language, even if I\u2019m still bad at it after 400 days of courses,\u201d before adding: \u201cHere, they don\u2019t take photos of kids. There aren\u2019t any paparazzi hidden at the school gates. That\u2019s number one for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to say that although the family travels frequently, their home in France \u201cis where we\u2019re happiest\u201d.<\/p>\n

Donald Trump celebrated the news with a social media post<\/a> on New Year\u2019s Eve, writing: \u201cGood News! George and Amal Clooney, two of the worst political prognosticators of all time, have officially become citizens of France which is, sadly, in the midst of a major crime problem because of their absolutely horrendous handling of immigration, much like we had under Sleepy Joe Biden.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

He would then list the actor\u2019s support for his former political opponent Kamala Harris, before ending with the insult: \u201cClooney got more publicity for politics than he did for his very few, and totally mediocre, movies. He wasn\u2019t a movie star at all, he was just an average guy who complained, constantly, about common sense in politics.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, Clooney responded: \u201cI totally agree with the current president. We have to make America great again. We\u2019ll start in November.\u201d The date is a reference to the US midterm elections, in which seats in the House Of Representatives and The Senate are being contested.<\/p>\n

In the film world, George Clooney is preparing to star in a new Ocean\u2019s film, which is expected to begin shooting this year. He will be reuniting with co-stars Brad Pitt, Don Cheadle, and Julia Roberts.<\/a><\/p>\n
