Influencer Melissa Mae Carlton<\/a> is offering a \u201cmedical update\u201d on her youngest daughter Molly\u2019s tragic and sudden death<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hesitate to share a medical update already because we still don\u2019t have an official diagnosis, but I do feel it\u2019s important to let people know that we have some answers this time,\u201d Melissa wrote via Instagram<\/a> on Saturday, December 27. \u201cThe doctors believe Molly had a genetic heart condition and suspect this may have been the case with Abi as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Molly and her husband, Tom Carlton, announced via Instagram on Friday, December 26, that their daughter Molly had died<\/a>. Their 9-year-old daughter, Abigail, previously died in April 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sharing this because I believe it could be critical information for families who have experienced SUDC (sudden unexpected death in children),\u201d Melissa, who also shares kids Harry and Lily with her husband, wrote on Saturday. \u201cThis understanding came because Molly was able to be monitored in the hospital, which we were not able to do with Abi. I\u2019ve never felt satisfied with the answers we were given for her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Melissa also claimed that, if Abi also had a cardiac condition, any minor illness<\/a> could \u201cpotentially trigger a sudden cardiac event.\u201d<\/p>\n

Molly died on Christmas Day after a sudden hospitalization for an undisclosed issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat morning, we witnessed many small miracles. Paramedics were stationed just three minutes away and arrived quickly,\u201d Melissa recalled on Saturday of Molly\u2019s death. “The pediatric trauma center was only fifteen minutes from where we were. We were in the best possible place, with everything aligned for the best conditions and the best outcome. Her little body fought so hard, but we\u2019ve been told that this type of cardiac event is, in most cases, not survivable.\u201d<\/p>\n

The influencer continued, \u201cI hope we will get more answers soon and will be doing more genetic investigation for our family now we have possibly a clearer avenue to explore.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Melissa and Tom grieved their youngest child, they took a step back from creating social media content.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have not been very active on here lately because, truthfully, I\u2019ve been in a very heavy place with my grief and have been feeling uninspired,\u201d Melissa explained on Saturday. “The reason I shared our situation is because I believe in the power of prayer. We were on our way to the hospital, and at that point we thought she was already gone. And yet, I still believed God could grant a miracle if it was His will. I held onto that faith right to the very end.\u201d<\/p>\n

Melissa further thanked her online community for their support.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are absolutely overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and prayers we have received. It\u2019s hard to even comprehend,\u201d she said. “I\u2019m not sure it\u2019s physically possible to get back to every message but from the bottom of our hearts, thank you. \u2026 We are grateful for every single one of you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Melissa has often used her social media posts to shine a light on her grief journey<\/a> following Abi\u2019s death last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish I could always be the strong, inspirational one on your feed, but I can\u2019t. The truth is, it really, really sucks,\u201d she wrote via Instagram last month. \u201cI still can\u2019t believe this happened. I still can\u2019t believe she\u2019s gone.\u201d<\/p>\n
