Michael Le Vell has confirmed his future on Coronation Street after more than 40 years of starring in the soap. The 61-year-old actor has played Kevin Webster in the show since he was just 18 years old. He insists he never takes having a job on the show for granted because writers can always run out of plots for the characters.<\/p>\n
The Weatherfield mechanic has been part of the show’s most powerful storylines over the years. Most recently, after a battle with cancer he faced even more heartbreak when his wife Abi (Sally Carman) left him for his younger brother Carl<\/a> (Jonathan Howard).<\/p>\n He has now confirmed he “breathed a sigh of relief” when he received a new Coronation Street contract.<\/a><\/p>\n He told the Mirror: \u201cYou can never take the job for granted. My contract was due in January and I\u2019ve just been offered a new one, so I can breathe a sigh of relief for another year.<\/p>\n \u201cBut you can never look beyond that. They might say \u2018you know what, we can\u2019t write for you, we don\u2019t know what to write for you anymore. Thank you and goodbye’. That\u2019s the nature of the beast.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite his decades on Corrie, Michael, who is the soap’s second longest-serving actor behind Bill Roache, still gets nervous ahead of a big scene.<\/a><\/p>\n He said: \u201cNot a day goes by where I don\u2019t get nervous. I get a churning stomach and I feel apprehensive, especially if I\u2019m in every scene. It\u2019s even more stressful if I\u2019m in a scene with someone like Bill Roache or Barbara Knox \u2013 mainly out of respect \u2013 or if I\u2019m in a big scene in the Rovers.<\/p>\n \u201cIf there are lots of people in the pub, when it comes to your bit, you\u2019re thinking \u2018don\u2019t mess up, don\u2019t mess up’. Otherwise, they\u2019ll all have to go back and do their dialogue again, so that\u2019s an added pressure.\u201d<\/p>\n While there has been fan speculation that Kevin could be set to reunite with ex-wife Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor)<\/a>, Michael would much rather see the mechanic back in the arms of his spouse Abi (Sally Carman).<\/p>\n He said: \u201cPeople ask me all the time if I\u2019d like Kevin to get back with Sally and I always say no. It\u2019s because I love Sally and Tim together. I think they\u2019re a great couple, so I wouldn\u2019t want them splitting up, just so I can get back with Sally.<\/p>\n “I\u2019d get back with Abi, because I love working with Sally Carman.
