The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt<\/a> first released to critical acclaim all the way back in 2015, but it could be getting an all-new expansion later this year.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s the rumour that\u2019s circulating right now, with relatively strong reporting behind it.<\/p>\n

Speculation has been swirling for a while, ever since Polish industry insider Borys Nie\u015bpielak spilled the beans.<\/p>\n

Now, Eurogamer.net<\/a> has been in contact with Nie\u015bpielak, who\u2019s doubled down on his claims. He says studio Fool\u2019s Theory \u2013 the team tasked with remaking the original The Witcher game<\/a> \u2013 is leading development.<\/p>\n

While he didn\u2019t share any specific proof, he did say he\u2019s corroborated the story with \u201cseveral\u201d independent sources.<\/p>\n

He also pointed to an off-hand comment<\/a> made by CD Projekt RED\u2019s CFO Piotr Nielubowicz in an earnings call last year:<\/p>\n

\u201cGiven our current progress, there is a chance that new content hinted upon in recent calls and reports may see release in the coming year, having an impact on our results and increasing the likelihood of achieving the earnings condition for the first stage of the incentive program.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s far from confirmation independently, but CDPR CEO Piotr Nielubowicz has also mentioned mysterious \u201cnew content\u201d expected to release in 2026. He suggested this could have \u201can impact\u201d on the firm\u2019s earnings in 2026.<\/p>\n

One theory is that the DLC would be used to bridge the gap to The Witcher 4<\/a>, which is still some years away.<\/p>\n

We wonder if CDPR would consider releasing this as a standalone game, a little bit like Marvel\u2019s Spider-Man: Miles Morales<\/a>, in order to reach as many players as possible.<\/p>\n

Clearly there is something afoot here, though. It\u2019s going to be interesting to see exactly how the Polish developer presents this, and how substantial it turns out to be.<\/p>\n
