\n Calum McFarlane says the cohesiveness and energy at training this morning reflects the positive culture at Cobham and the players\u2019 determination to perform to their best.

Under-21s head coach McFarlane is stepping up to lead the Blues first team when we take on Manchester City on Sunday, and he began his work with the senior squad on a chilly morning at our training ground.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the media later on Friday, McFarlane explained that while he already knew a few of the players, he was formally introduced to the squad ahead of training. The reaction he got gives him great hope we can get a result at the Etihad.<\/p>\n
\u2018The energy and enthusiasm in training was exceptional today,\u2019 said McFarlane. <\/p>\n
\u2018They seem really focused, driven, hungry. They know we have a massive game on Sunday so we are going to have to be at our best. You can feel that. They\u2019re professionals, they\u2019ve been here a long time, and they\u2019ve done it before.<\/p>\n
\u2018There\u2019s a really good culture at the club in terms of the support from the first team, from the directors, everyone seems interested,\u2019 added McFarlane of the synergy between the men\u2019s building and the Academy.<\/p>\n
\u2018When we have had big Youth League games, the first team players have come across and watched. There\u2019s obviously a bit of an Academy presence as well. Reece [James] has been brilliant, a real leader in the group. He has supported the staff and the players. There is a real focus for getting the best performance we can on Sunday.\u2019<\/p>\n
McFarlane explained how he was feeling about his role heading into Sunday’s game and why the players\u2019 response in training has helped him adapt.<\/p>\n
He said: \u2018I\u2019m quite relaxed about it to be honest. I\u2019m sure as we get closer to the game it will maybe be more nerve-racking. I\u2019m just focused on coming in and preparing the team as best we can.<\/p>\n
\u2018I haven\u2019t worked at this level before of course, but the lads today were brilliant and it fills you with confidence we are all in it together and it\u2019s a team effort.\u2019<\/p>\n
