Jamie Carragher compared an underperforming Liverpool player to Darwin Nunez despite the fact they play in completely different positions, and the similarities in their respective games aren\u2019t positive ones in the pundit\u2019s mind.<\/p>\n
Nunez\u2019s time at Anfield was never dull, though in truth, he did not come close to justifying his lofty price tag. The Uruguayan played at a million miles per hour and over the course of his three year spell in England, never improved his link-up play or finishing.<\/p>\n
The end result was Liverpool<\/a> decided to move in a new direction when selling Nunez<\/a> to Al-Hilal. Despite playing against much weaker opposition, Nunez has only scored five goals in 14 appearances for his new side.<\/p>\n Nunez\u2019s name came up in conversation between Jamie Carragher<\/a>, fellow pundit Darren Bent, and Sky Sports presenter Dave Jones on Sunday.<\/p>\n In the build-up to Liverpool\u2019s delayed kick-off against Fulham, Carragher likened current Reds left-back, Milos Kerkez<\/a>, to Nunez due to the frantic way they play the game.<\/p>\n Carragher\u2019s assessment of Kerkez \u2013 who has struggled since arriving from Bournemouth \u2013 was almost entirely negative.<\/p>\n When asked by Jones if the rotation with Andy Robertson is working for Kerkez, Carragher replied: \u201cNo, but I think it\u2019s working for Liverpool in that I don\u2019t think he should be playing every week.<\/p>\n \u201cThey\u2019ve got too good of a back-up in Robertson who needs to play games as well. I think when Robertson has played \u2013 and he hasn\u2019t played as much as Kerkez \u2013 I think you\u2019d probably say Robertson\u2019s performances have been better.<\/p>\n \u201cKerkez has found it tough. It\u2019s been a struggle for him. He\u2019s a young man but he\u2019ll have to improve in the second half of the season, there\u2019s no doubt about that.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s funny watching him play because I always remember speaking about Trent Alexander-Arnold who Liverpool have missed enormously, and saying it\u2019s like having Kevin De Bruyne at right-back.<\/p>\n \u201cSometimes when you watch Kerkez it\u2019s like having Darwin Nunez at left-back.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s just a bit mad. There\u2019s no thought process, what\u2019s he doing with the ball, how\u2019s he connecting with other players.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s just head down and run.
