As a result, the yearly State Pension will have increased by up to \u00a31,900 by the end of the Parliament.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;Protecting the triple lock, even in the current economic climate, shows our commitment to pensioners.&#8221; The Conservative leadership has been less clear about the future of the triple lock, with a number of leading economists claiming it will become too expensive.<\/p>\n<p>Who is eligible for the new State Pension<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">You\u2019ll be able to claim the new State Pension when you reach State Pension age if you\u2019re:<\/p>\n<p>a man born on or after 6 April 1951a woman born on or after 6 April 1953<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">If you were born before, these rules do not apply. Instead, you\u2019ll get the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/state-pension\/eligibility\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">basic State Pension<\/a>. You\u2019ll need 10 qualifying years on your National Insurance record to get any new State Pension.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">A qualifying year is one in which you were:<\/p>\n<p>working and made National Insurance contributions<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/national-insurance-credits\/eligibility\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">getting National Insurance credits<\/a> for example if you were unemployed, ill or a parent or carerpaying voluntary National Insurance contributions<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">You might also qualify if you\u2019ve <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/new-state-pension\/living-and-working-overseas\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">lived or worked abroad<\/a> or paid <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/reduced-national-insurance-married-women\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">reduced rate National Insurance for married women<\/a>.
