The frontman of Scottish<\/a> rock band Del Amitri<\/a> has spoken of his progress in an ongoing fight against Parkinson’s disease<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Singer-songwriter Justin Currie<\/a> has helmed the group since it was founded in Glasgow in 1980, selling more than six million albums along the way.<\/p>\n

The 61-year-old, of \u2018Nothing Ever Happens\u2019 and \u2018Roll to Me\u2019 fame, announced he had been diagnosed with the progressive neurological illness in March 2024.<\/p>\n

Now, speaking to the Sunday Mail, the rocker said he once feared the disease was \u201cstealing his personality\u201d.<\/p>\n

However, a new regime of pills has seen a marked improvement in Currie\u2019s condition.<\/p>\n

He told the newspaper<\/a>: \u201cOne of my biggest fears was I ini\u00adtially felt like it was steal\u00ading my per\u00adson\u00adal\u00adity but I\u2019ve softened a bit on that now.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019ve got over being so freaked out about it and the med\u00adic\u00ada\u00adtions have helped.\u201d<\/p>\n

Herald features writer Teddy Jamieson wrote<\/a> about his experience at Del Amitri\u2019s Edinburgh<\/a> gig on 23 December, held at the Usher Hall.<\/p>\n

\u201cDressed in black, Currie looks thinner than an exclamation mark tonight,\u201d he noted. \u201cBut he\u2019s in fine, thrilling voice. Since he revealed he was diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s disease there is a terrible temptation to interpret everything he does onstage through that lens.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut in truth \u2018Gavin\u2019 – the name Currie has given to his tremor – is little in evidence this evening. It\u2019s the performer, not the patient who is on show.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking on LBC<\/a> last week, Currie shared more of his battle with Parkinson\u2019s.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t even know there were pills. I thought they just said \u2018see you later. Good luck\u2019. That\u2019s what I was expecting.<\/p>\n

Currie added: “So I was thrilled to find out there\u2019s medication, and then thrilled to find out that the meds worked for me. I\u2019ve had one step up in dose since then, but yeah, I\u2019m actually better than I was.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI can play a bit better, and I can think a bit better, and I\u2019m a bit more sociable than I was.<\/p>\n
