{"id":353314,"date":"2026-01-05T12:43:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-05T12:43:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/353314\/"},"modified":"2026-01-05T12:43:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-05T12:43:08","slug":"hawkinsbrown-turnover-drops-16-and-profits-slump","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/353314\/","title":{"rendered":"Hawkins\\Brown turnover drops 16% and profits slump"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Accounts filed at Companies House for the period ending 31 March 2025 show a \u00a35.8 million drop in revenue from the record income levels recorded in the previous year and tumbling profits.<\/p>\n<p>The latest figures reveal the company made a profit before tax of just \u00a3248,000 in 2025, an 80 per cent decrease from the \u00a31.27 million posted in 2024 and significantly down on the \u00a32.85 million profit in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Staff numbers also shrank at the AJ100 practice, which slipped from 7th to 9th place in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/aj100-data-and-profiles\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the latest rankings<\/a> of the UK\u2019s largest employers of architects.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s average workforce in the 12 months until the end of March 2025 was 269, a fall from 318 in the previous period. According to the accounts, the number of technical staff had decreased from 262 to 215.<\/p>\n<p>While the practice\u2019s income from overseas work dipped from \u00a31.9 million to \u00a31.4 million, revenue from its UK projects fell \u00a333.3 million to \u00a328.1 million.<\/p>\n<p>The company has been asked to formally comment on the figures. A note filed with the 2025 accounts, which mirrors a statement filed in 2024, reads: \u2018The directors believe that the principal risks and uncertainties facing the company in the coming year are as follows: potential downturn in the construction industry as a result of the ongoing increases in raw material costs and uncertainty surrounding economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018[There is a possible] bad debt risk as a result of client cashflow tightening if construction activity slows.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/hawkinsbrowns-80m-bristol-uni-library-plans-paused-for-at-least-three-years\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Last year<\/a> it emerged the University of Bristol had put plans for a new \u00a380 million library drawn up by the practice and Schmidt Hammer Lassen on long-term hold.<\/p>\n<p>The university told the AJ that the controversial seven-storey flagship scheme \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/hawkinsbrown-and-schmidt-hammer-lassens-80m-bristol-uni-library-uturn\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">approved in 2021<\/a> with a scheduled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/hawkinsbrown-and-schmidt-hammer-lassens-80m-bristol-uni-library-uturn\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">opening date in 2026<\/a> \u2013 had been \u2018paused\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The organisation added that the unbuilt 14,320m\u00b2 project\u2019s ultimate fate would not be reconsidered within the next three years.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/hawkinsbrown-reveals-plans-for-scaled-back-manchester-met-library\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Elsewhere<\/a>, Hawkins\\Brown unveiled a scaled-down design for a library at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) after its initial proposal fell foul of escalating construction costs.<\/p>\n<p>Its previous proposal replaced the university\u2019s existing five-storey All Saints library with a 13-storey block containing 22,000m\u00b2 of floor space.
