Gwyneth Paltrow<\/a> has claimed she was fired from an acting job because of the attention-grabbing headlines surrounding her divorce from Chris Martin<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The actor, 53, and the Coldplay frontman, 48, announced their split, which they famously called \u201cconscious uncoupling<\/a>,\u201d in 2014, after nearly 11 years of marriage. Although they finalized their divorce in 2016, they have remained friends and co-parent their two children<\/a>, Apple, 21, and Moses, 19. <\/p>\n

Now, the Goop founder is looking back on getting divorced in the spotlight and how it affected her career. During Tuesday\u2019s episode of Amy Poehler\u2019s podcast, Good Hang, Paltrow claimed that while she was scheduled to do a movie right after her and Martin\u2019s \u201cconscious uncoupling,\u201d the opportunity fell through. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a lot of harsh stuff in the press, and I think the distributor was like, \u2018This might be too hot to touch,\u2019\u201d she explained, without naming the movie. <\/p>\n

\u201cInteresting. They were like, \u2018We don\u2019t need the heat?\u2019\u201d Poehler responded, which Paltrow agreed with. <\/p>\n

\u201cSo that was great!\u201d the Marty Supreme star joked. \u201cCause I was getting a divorce, and then I got fired off. It was so awesome.\u201d <\/p>\n

When Poehler mentioned the \u201cbig reactions\u201d to the actor\u2019s \u201cconscious uncoupling,\u201d Paltrow said she understood why there was backlash. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think the implicit learning is like, \u2018Oh, f***.\u2019 Like, they’re saying I did something wrong, which of course was not the intention,\u201d she explained. \u201cThe inference that I messed someone up. Like that’s not a nice thing to contemplate. So, I do understand why it was so personal for people.\u201d <\/p>\n

When Paltrow and Martin announced their divorce, they called it a \u201cconscious uncoupling,\u201d a term for mindfully and respectfully ending a relationship, with the intention of positively moving forward. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and coparent, we will be able to continue in the same manner,\u201d the pair wrote in a 2014 blog post on Paltrow\u2019s Goop website, titled \u201cConscious Uncoupling,\u201d <\/p>\n

In a 2022 essay for British Vogue<\/a>, the Iron Man star reflected on the immense backlash surrounding her divorce statement, which she didn\u2019t initially expect. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe public\u2019s surprise gave way quickly to ire and derision. A strange combination of mockery and anger that I had never seen. I was already pretty tattered from what had been a tough year,\u201d she wrote at the time. \u201cFrankly, the intensity of the response saw me bury my head in the sand deeper than I ever had in my very public life.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, in a 2023 Instagram Q&A,<\/a> Paltrow said she took pride in using the \u201cconscious uncoupling\u201d phrase to announce her divorce. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt makes me feel pretty proud when people come up to me on the streets and say, \u2018Thank you for introducing that concept because I\u2019ve become good friends with my ex,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m very happy that we were able to play a small part in that cultural shift.\u201d <\/p>\n

After the divorce, Paltrow married Brad Falchuk in 2018.
