{"id":357282,"date":"2026-01-07T16:00:16","date_gmt":"2026-01-07T16:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/357282\/"},"modified":"2026-01-07T16:00:16","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T16:00:16","slug":"disney-adds-oscar-short-listed-animated-short-retirement-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/357282\/","title":{"rendered":"Disney+ Adds Oscar Short-Listed Animated Short &#8220;Retirement Plan&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just ahead of this year\u2019s Academy Awards, Disney+ has added a new animated short film called \u201cRetirement Plan\u201d onto Disney+ in the United Kingdom and across Europe.<\/p>\n<p>This short tells the story of Ray, who, in the throes of his overstimulated, energy-poor midlife, fantasises about everything he\u2019d love to do in retirement, once he finally has the \u201ctime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRetirement Plan\u201d stars Domhnall Gleeson, who recently starred in \u201cThe Paper\u201d and \u201cStar Wars: The Force Awakens\u201d, and he is also an executive producer on the film, along with Andrew Freedman and Julie Murnaghan.<\/p>\n<p>Dublin-based filmmaker John Kelly co-wrote the short with New York-based writer Tara Lawall, who said in a statement to <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/01\/disney-plus-europe-adds-retirement-plan-domhnall-gleeson-1236665120\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Deadline<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe weren\u2019t thinking about a wider audience when making this film, we just wanted to tell a personal, slightly esoteric story that made us laugh, think and feel a bit wobbly. To see it connect with so many people, and now reach the Oscar shortlist, is unimaginable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The animated short film has already been shortlisted for this year\u2019s Oscars and has already won a number of awards, including the Grand Jury Award and Audience Award in the Animated Short Competition at SXSW and the Best of the Festival Award at Palm Springs International ShortFest.<\/p>\n<p>This is the latest short to be added onto Disney+ in the UK and Europe this week.<\/p>\n<p>Are you going to be checking out \u201cRetirement Plan\u201d?
