1. It\u2019s not your fault<\/p>\n
Being targeted, bullied or harassed online is never your fault, no matter what someone says.<\/p>\n
2. Don\u2019t reply or react<\/p>\n
Responding can make it worse. Bullies often want attention or a reaction.<\/p>\n
3. Save the evidence<\/p>\n
Take screenshots of messages, comments, usernames, dates and times. Don\u2019t delete them.<\/p>\n
4. Block and report<\/p>\n
Use the platform\u2019s block and report tools straight away.<\/p>\n
5. Tell a trusted adult<\/p>\n
This could be a parent, guardian, teacher, coach, or youth worker. You don\u2019t have to deal with it alone.<\/p>\n
6. Protect your privacy<\/p>\n
Set accounts to privateDo not share your telephone number, location or school on your social media accountsOnly accept people you actually know<\/p>\n
7. Look after your wellbeing<\/p>\n
Take breaks from social media if needed. Talk about how you\u2019re feeling, it really helps.<\/p>\n
Parents & Guardians<\/p>\n
1. Stay calm and listen<\/p>\n
Your child needs reassurance, not panic. Thank them for telling you.<\/p>\n
2. Collect evidence<\/p>\n
Screenshots are crucial, especially if schools, clubs, or the police need to be involved.<\/p>\n
3. Report on the platform<\/p>\n
Most platforms take harassment of minors seriously.<\/p>\n
4. Adjust privacy and safety settings together<\/p>\n
This keeps your child involved and empowered, rather than feeling punished.<\/p>\n
5. Inform the school or club<\/p>\n
If the child knows the person offline, schools and organisations can often intervene.<\/p>\n
6. Know when to escalate<\/p>\n
Contact police if there are:<\/p>\n
