{"id":359037,"date":"2026-01-08T14:08:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-08T14:08:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/359037\/"},"modified":"2026-01-08T14:08:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T14:08:08","slug":"government-to-water-down-business-rate-rise-for-pubs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/359037\/","title":{"rendered":"Government to water down business rate rise for pubs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In her November Budget, Chancellor Rachel Reeves scaled back business rate discounts that have been in force since the pandemic from 75% to 40% &#8211; and announced that there would be no discount at all from April.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">That, combined with the adjustments to rateable values of pub premises, left pubs with the prospect of much higher rates bills.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The government had already offered some relief by reducing the &#8220;multiplier&#8221; used to calculate business rates.
