PinkPantheress: ‘People are less willing to listen to electronic music made by a Black woman’ \u00b7 News \u27cb RAThe UK artist told The Hollywood Reporter “there’s a lot of people that don’t necessarily understand” what she represents.\"PinkPantheress:PinkPantheress<\/a> discussed the additional hurdles faced by Black women in electronic music during a recent interview. <\/p>\n

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, the Bath-born producer said that “people are less willing to listen to electronic music made by a Black woman,” and believes that she’s missed out on certain opportunities as a result.<\/p>\n

“There’s some considerations I would like to get as an artist which I might not be getting right now,” she said. “Since maybe it’s harder to put me into a genre. I’m in a very privileged position musically, but I can feel a little bit like I’m hitting all these markers and it still feels like I’m getting overlooked, simply because there’s a lot of people that don’t necessarily understand what I represent, nor do they want to take a look because I think it just doesn’t make sense for them.”<\/p>\n

Other topics touched on in the interview included performing at Glastonbury, TikTok trends and meeting her idol Hayley Williams of Paramore. It came after PinkPantheress recently received<\/a> an honorary doctorate in music from the University of Kent. Her latest mixtape, Fancy That peaked at number three in the UK album charts.<\/p>\n
