{"id":36221,"date":"2025-07-31T17:05:44","date_gmt":"2025-07-31T17:05:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/36221\/"},"modified":"2025-07-31T17:05:44","modified_gmt":"2025-07-31T17:05:44","slug":"why-franco-colapinto-has-struggled-for-alpine-in-f1-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/36221\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Franco Colapinto has struggled for Alpine in F1 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/team\/alpine\/24858\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Alpine<\/a> driver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/franco-colapinto\/875899\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Franco Colapinto<\/a> has explained why he has struggled during the 2025 Formula 1 campaign after impressing as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/team\/williams\/13\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Williams<\/a> substitute last season.<\/p>\n<p>The 22-year-old is yet to score a point since replacing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/jack-doohan\/454760\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Jack Doohan<\/a> ahead of Imola seven rounds ago, while Alpine team-mate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/pierre-gasly\/19626\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Pierre Gasly<\/a> has claimed 13 points during that time.<\/p>\n<p>It comes after Colapinto joined F1 for the final nine rounds last year standing in as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/logan-sargeant\/289607\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Logan Sargeant<\/a> replacement at Williams, before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/carlos-sainz\/15916\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Carlos Sainz<\/a> joined from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/team\/ferrari\/3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Ferrari<\/a> for 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Colapinto impressed for Williams scoring twice in his opening four grands prix, but he has failed to replicate that form at Alpine, saying \u201cI\u2019m lacking confidence with the car\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not finding, sometimes, my feet in some corners,\u201d he added, ahead of this weekend\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/location\/hungaroring\/133\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Hungarian Grand Prix<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m struggling to be able to turn in and to come into the corners, and that&#8217;s just not really giving me much confidence. I didn&#8217;t have this issue last year, I could go straight in and be quick straight away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow I&#8217;m struggling a bit more with that and that&#8217;s the reality. I don&#8217;t have the confidence as I had maybe last year and that&#8217;s a bit costly in F1.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>   <img decoding=\"async\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1753981509_140_franco-colapinto-alpine.jpg\" alt=\"Franco Colapinto, Alpine\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/p>\n<p class=\"title\">Franco Colapinto, Alpine<\/p>\n<p class=\"photographer\">Photo by: Sam Bagnall \/ Sutton Images via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Colapinto pinpointed \u201cmaximising the weekend as a whole\u201d as the area he needs to improve upon, and the Argentine is confident of doing so even if the results do not currently show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;ve been working hard with the team to understand some of the issues, and I do believe that we&#8217;ve been getting better at some things,\u201d said Colapinto, who started the year as an Alpine reserve.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s just that feeling that nothing has been connected or put back together, and that package that we have, it&#8217;s been maximised at times, but not in some other times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel there is progress that is being done behind the scenes, it&#8217;s just that when you don&#8217;t see it in results it&#8217;s very tricky to keep pushing, to keep working in the same direction because you don&#8217;t actually see the results happening.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s something that you can&#8217;t really rely on when you don&#8217;t see it on track. But I do believe that we&#8217;ve been getting better in many areas and that we are still working very well with the team. It&#8217;s going to come, but it&#8217;s just taking longer than what I would like.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>F1 will enter its annual summer shutdown after Sunday\u2019s Hungarian GP, with the championship not returning again until Zandvoort on 29-31 August.<\/p>\n<p>   <img decoding=\"async\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1753981510_986_franco-colapinto-alpine.jpg\" alt=\"Franco Colapinto, Alpine\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/p>\n<p class=\"title\">Franco Colapinto, Alpine<\/p>\n<p class=\"photographer\">Photo by: Kym Illman \/ Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Many drivers use this as an opportunity to relax and take a holiday, but the poor form and only joining the grid from round seven means Colapinto will continue working throughout August.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy season has been a bit shorter so far,\u201d he said. \u201cSo I need to keep working, and when you are not really comfortable with the performance, I think you just need to keep pushing and keep going.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course you need time to reset, but you need to use the free time to try to keep learning and understanding what you need to get better at.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, we will of course keep pushing forward and try to come back from the summer break stronger than what we left.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Photos from Hungarian GP &#8211;
