{"id":363040,"date":"2026-01-10T16:43:19","date_gmt":"2026-01-10T16:43:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/363040\/"},"modified":"2026-01-10T16:43:19","modified_gmt":"2026-01-10T16:43:19","slug":"northwich-woman-died-in-hospital-days-after-spire-hospital-surgery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/363040\/","title":{"rendered":"Northwich woman died in hospital days after Spire Hospital surgery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  An inquest into the death of Carol Miles was opened at Warrington Coroner\u2019s Court on Wednesday.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Ms Miles, who was born and lived in Northwich, died at Leighton Hospital on December 10, aged 80.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A coroner officer explained to the court that she underwent an elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy operation, relating to the gallbladder, at Spire Cheshire Hospital in Stretton on December 2.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  In the days that followed, she presented at Leighton Hospital due to feeling unwell, and it was found that she had a bile leak.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Despite treatment, her condition continued to deteriorate, and she sadly passed away on December 10.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  During the brief coronial hearing, the coroner officer stated that an inquest was required in this case due to the possible link to the surgery she underwent.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  They requested that an inquest be opened and adjourned to allow for further work to be completed.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Jacqueline Devonish, senior coroner for Cheshire, said: \u201cOn the evidence that I have heard, I am satisfied that Carol Randle Miles will require an inquest.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI shall therefore formally open an inquest and adjourn it to be heard on May 11.
