{"id":365820,"date":"2026-01-12T08:20:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T08:20:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/365820\/"},"modified":"2026-01-12T08:20:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T08:20:08","slug":"it-was-jessie-buckleys-night-at-the-golden-globes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/365820\/","title":{"rendered":"It was Jessie Buckley&#8217;s night at the Golden Globes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jessie Buckley won Best Actress at the Golden Globes for her performance in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rte.ie\/entertainment\/movie-reviews\/2026\/0109\/1551816-hamnet-shakespeare-in-love-and-grief\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Hamnet<\/a>, on a night when the historical drama also won the coveted Best Picture award.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest winners at the ceremony were the Netflix crime drama <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rte.ie\/entertainment\/2026\/0112\/1552598-adolescence-continues-winning-streak-at-golden-globes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Adolescence<\/a> and the comedy thriller <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rte.ie\/entertainment\/movie-reviews\/2025\/0925\/1535300-one-battle-after-another-is-terrific-fun\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">One Battle After Another<\/a>, each winning four.<\/p>\n<p>Buckley had been the favourite to win Best Actress, Drama, but Hamnet &#8211; an adaptation of the bestseller of the same name by Coleraine-born author Maggie O&#8217;Farrell &#8211; winning Best Picture, Drama was a surprise, as many had tipped the supernatural horror Sinners.<\/p>\n<p>Watch: Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal discuss Hamnet with RT\u00c9 Entertainment&#8217;s Alan Corr<\/p>\n<p alt=\"Hamnet stars Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal talk to RT\u00c9 Entertainment\" data-embed=\"comcast-player\" data-guid=\"epic-mpx-manual-29960\" data-id=\"CwmuF2KWmGoK\">\n<p>Accepting her award at the Beverly Hilton, in Los Angeles, Buckley saluted Hamnet director Chlo\u00e9 Zhao, co-star Paul Mescal, author O&#8217;Farrell, and all the cast and crew of the film, which tells the story of Agnes and William Shakespeare&#8217;s lost son.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Jessie Buckley, Jacobi Jupe and Paul Mescal at the 83RD ANNUAL GOLDEN GLOBES\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/0023ba8b-614.jpg\"\/><br \/>\nJessie Buckley with her Hamnet co-stars Jacobi Jupe and Paul Mescal<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was such an extraordinary set to be part of because we were telling the story of probably the most famous Brit that ever lived, and we had a Chinese director, a lot of Irish, a mostly Polish crew, beside our British family,&#8221; Buckley said.<\/p>\n<p>The Killarney-born star saluted &#8220;the incredible women I am honoured to stand beside in this category&#8221; as she clutched her award.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I mean, Julia Roberts, you are, like, a hero to us all, thank you,&#8221; she continued. &#8220;Jennifer (Lawrence), Renate (Reinsve), Eva (Victor), Tessa (Thompson) &#8211; God, I&#8217;d watch you anytime, anywhere.
