Doctor Doom\u2019s future just got a lot darker. This April, Marvel returns to the brutal world of 2099 with Doom 2099: Rage of Doom #1, a new one-shot that picks up the threads left dangling after last year\u2019s Doomed 2099. Writer Frank Tieri is back to continue the saga he launched, this time joined by rising star artist Von Randal (All-New Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spide<\/a>r).<\/p>\n

The infamous future version of Victor Von Doom\u2014whose popularity surged thanks to Marvel Rivals, is coming off a humbling reckoning with his past self. Stripped of everything he once ruled, Doom\u2019s last hope to reclaim his destiny lies in a dangerous alliance with the ultimate machine menace: Ultron.<\/p>\n

Set in the desolate aftermath of Doomed 2099, the story finds Doom grappling with the catastrophic consequences of his own spell, which wiped out all life on Earth. Desperate to undo the damage, he discovers Ultron\u2019s buried head and risks everything to repair his time machine\u2014only to realize that reviving a ruthless AI may spark a rebellion even he can\u2019t control.<\/p>\n

\u201cBehold the battle of two of comics\u2019 all-time greatest villains!\u201d Tieri teased. \u201cAfter the shock ending to the last one-shot, that Doom 2099 was responsible for wiping out his timeline and all life on Earth\u2014fans of that book were clamoring to find out how things got that way. Well, they need wonder no more because we reveal it here in DOOM 2099: RAGE OF DOOM #1\u2026 And we\u2019ve brought none other than Mr. AI terror himself, Ultron, along for the human life-ending ride! (Technically he doesn\u2019t count as life on Earth, ya know\u2026)\u201d<\/p>\n

Tieri added, \u201cWhen we rejoin Doom in our story, he\u2019s a broken man who desperately wants to amend what he\u2019s done\u2014the only problem is he needs his time machine fixed in order to do it. Enter Ultron\u2026 but will the one-time emperor of the world get what he wants out of Hank Pym\u2019s creation? Or will Ultron add him to the list of the nonliving?\u201d<\/p>\n

Editor Mark Paniccia couldn\u2019t resist piling on the torment: \u201cIf there\u2019s one person who can beat Doom, it\u2019s Frank Tieri. He really knows how to torture poor Victor! I almost feel bad for him. And in the first one-shot, we debuted the spectacular talents of illustrators Delio Diaz and Frank Alpizar.
