Shedkm announced this week that it had opened a new studio in Hastings, East Sussex, to handle the demand for regeneration-led work on the south coast.<\/p>\n

In a statement to the AJ, it said the studio would \u2018enable closer collaboration with local communities, councils, and clients, to deliver economically and socially transformative schemes that add tangible, lasting value for local people\u2019.<\/p>\n

The practice added that its new studio added to \u2018our nationwide presence alongside studios in Liverpool, Manchester and London, and brings our socially regenerative design approach to the south coast\u2019.<\/p>\n

Shedkm\u2019s recent work in the south includes Circus Street, in Brighton, a mixed-use new neighbourhood which won the AJ Architecture Awards 2022 Building of the Year. The practice says the scheme is still its most significant in the region to date.<\/p>\n

In 2022, Shedkm became employee owned<\/a> by its 45 staff across two studios in Liverpool and London. In 2024, it opened an office in Manchester.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, York-based Brown + Company<\/a> has announced the opening of a studio in Edinburgh, set to be led by architect Rob Miller.<\/p>\n

Miller recently secured first place<\/a> in the national design ideas competition for a new community facility at Portobello Promenade in the city, which will restore a dated public toilet. The practice is now working with Edinburgh City Council on the project.<\/p>\n

The scheme features a community garden as part of a shared initiative involving local schools, charities, and residents.<\/p>\n

Miller said: \u2018I am extremely proud to be opening Brown + Company\u2019s first Scottish office here in Edinburgh. This is a major move for our company and a tremendous vote of confidence not just in ourselves, but crucially also in Edinburgh.\u2019<\/p>\n

Brown + Company was set up in 2023 by Neil Brown, and secured planning on a major heritage-led regeneration scheme<\/a> in York at the end of 2024.<\/p>\n
