Deadline<\/a>, Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling and newcomer Flynn Gray, was created as a stand-alone film. \u201cThis was designed as a real stand-alone,\u201d Kennedy stated, adding, \u201cWe could just make a movie and tell a story.\u201d<\/p>\nWhile not originally intended as a series, she acknowledged the possibility of more due to Gray\u2019s performance: \u201cYou cannot ignore the fact that this young actor is so good. I will be very surprised if he doesn\u2019t go on and we don\u2019t try to see if there might be future stories.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kennedy confirmed the next Star Wars theatrical release will be the Mandalorian movie directed by Jon Favreau. \u201cThat comes out in May,\u201d she said. \u201cAs soon as I get back into town, I\u2019m sitting down with Jon and looking at that.\u201d Kennedy noted the film finished shooting in November, and she will oversee effects work in post-production.<\/p>\n
Regarding other projects, Kennedy stated, \u201cTaika [Waititi] has turned in a script that I think is hilarious and great.\u201d She added, \u201cDonald Glover has turned in a script. And\u2026 Steve Soderbergh and Adam Driver turned in a script written by Scott Burns. It was just great.\u201d She emphasized that final decisions would not be hers alone: \u201cIt\u2019s not just my decision, especially when I\u2019ve got a foot out the door.\u201d<\/p>\n
