Calvin Ramsay<\/a> has emerged as a surprise option for Liverpool\u2019s first team after Conor Bradley<\/a>\u2018s injury, but Arne Slot<\/a> is not planning to use him unless necessary.<\/p>\n

Ramsay has made the matchday squad in each of the last seven games, and with Bradley now out for the rest of the season he is not expected to be loaned out this month.<\/p>\n

Instead the Scot will stay around Slot\u2019s first-team squad as right-back cover \u2013 though asked about his chances of playing, Liverpool\u2019s head coach gave a brutal verdict.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s with us, but I still think I have better options to play.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s great for Calvin where he is at the moment,\u201d Slot began.<\/p>\n

\u201cHalf a year ago he came back to this club, to the U21s, and of course everyone who is playing for the U21s is hoping for a moment, for a chance.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut it\u2019s a big, big, big chance that he\u2019s having now to come to the first team.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cSo when someone is really unlucky with the injuries that we\u2019re having there is always a player that benefits from that, and Calvin is one of them.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s with us, but I still think I have better options to play.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut the moment I run out of options he has shown, in the one game he played against Palace and the moments he trained with us, that he is good enough to be in and around our players.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen sometimes you have to wait for a chance to show this to the rest of the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut in this moment of time I have, in my opinion, still better options than him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"LIVERPOOL,<\/p>\n

Those options are specialist defenders Jeremie Frimpong<\/a> and Joe Gomez<\/a> along with midfielders Dominik Szoboszlai<\/a> and Curtis Jones<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With Mohamed Salah<\/a> set to return from the Africa Cup of Nations next week \u2013 and perhaps as early as Tuesday\u2019s clash with Marseille in the Champions League<\/a> \u2013 Frimpong will be freed up to resume duties as first-choice right-back.<\/p>\n

That drops Ramsay down the pecking order further, arguably to fifth choice, despite Slot recognising his accomplished display in the Carabao Cup<\/a> defeat to Crystal Palace<\/a> in October.<\/p>\n

While the 22-year-old, who was previously expected to return to Scotland on loan this month, was not even considered a first-team option heading into the current campaign, there is cause to question whether such a blunt approach was necessary from Slot.<\/p>\n

Does Calvin Ramsay<\/a> deserve more of a chance under Arne Slot<\/a>? <\/p>\n

Arne Slot<\/a> didn\u2019t mince words when discussing Calvin Ramsay<\/a>, admitting he still prefers playing midfielders out of position over the young Scot. With Jeremie Frimpong<\/a> established as the starter and Joe Gomez<\/a> providing cover, Ramsay remains is not expected to feature unless in emergency.<\/p>\n
