City push: Fabrizio Romano reports that Man City<\/a> have made a \u201cbig approach\u201d for Marc Guehi in the last 12 hours.<\/p>\n

Liverpool\u2019s dilemma: City\u2019s interest may now force Liverpool to pay a mid-season premium \u2013 quoted at up to \u00a340 million \u2013 or risk losing the target entirely.<\/p>\n

Slot\u2019s response: Despite a season-ending injury to Conor Bradley<\/a>, Arne Slot<\/a> remained coy on January signings when speaking on Friday.<\/p>\n

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reports on X<\/a> that Man City<\/a> are \u201cadvancing\u201d in their pursuit of Palace captain Guehi.<\/p>\n

Romano claims that the Manchester club made a \u201cbig approach\u201d within the last 12 hours in the form of a contract offer to the player himself, while they are preparing to push forward in talks with Palace.<\/p>\n

The deal to take Guehi to the Etihad is described as \u201ccloser,\u201d though it remains to be seen where Liverpool figure in the equation.<\/p>\n

Guehi had all but signed for Liverpool on the final day of the summer transfer window after an agreement worth \u00a335 million plus a 10 percent sell-on clause was struck with Palace.<\/p>\n

It fell through at the last minute, however, and the Reds were expected to wait until the end of the season to sign the England international on a free transfer.<\/p>\n

But the development of Man City<\/a>\u2018s interest \u2013 which comes after lengthy injuries for Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol \u2013 means a deal may no longer be possible for the summer.<\/p>\n

Palace\u2019s mid-season asking price has been quoted as high as \u00a340 million, though Sky Sports<\/a> had previously claimed they would be willing to sell for less than the fee agreed<\/a> with Liverpool in September.<\/p>\n

That would clearly be a significant investment, certainly for the Reds, for a player who is now into the final months of his contract.<\/p>\n

Liverpool have injuries of their own, with Giovanni Leoni<\/a> and Conor Bradley<\/a> both ruled out for the remainder of the season, and that has sparked calls for an accelerated pursuit<\/a> of Guehi.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

It could be that Man City<\/a>\u2018s advances force their hand, or simply prompt the Premier League<\/a> champions to assess better-value options elsewhere.<\/p>\n

Speaking in his pre-Burnley<\/a> press conference on Friday, Arne Slot<\/a> insisted that \u201ceveryone is aligned\u201d within Liverpool\u2019s recruitment team over whether they would reinforce in January following Bradley\u2019s knee injury.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think everyone is aligned about the challenges we are facing,\u201d he said at the AXA Training Centre.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s not to say that we\u2019re going to act, but everyone is aligned on what we are facing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no one that has a different opinion about it. But that\u2019s not to say that anything is going to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

With Man City<\/a> advancing quickly, Liverpool face a choice: pay \u00a340m now for a player they almost signed for \u00a335m, or let a primary target join a direct rival.
