At this point, we know that Netflix original movies are something of a gamble, but there\u2019s a new one out today that may lure you away from watching 28 Days Later: The Bone Temple in theaters. That would be The Rip<\/a>, a new action thriller starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, rounded out by a great cast. <\/p>\n The Rip is a who\u2019s who of currently popular actors, in addition to industry staples like Affleck and Damon (Damon, this year, about to lead Christopher Nolan\u2019s The Odyssey). There\u2019s Teyana Taylor, nabbing all sorts of awards for her supporting role in One Battle After Another. There\u2019s Oscar nominee, Emmy winner and Walking Dead veteran Steven Yeun. There\u2019s current Green Lantern Kyle Chandler and previous Supergirl Sasha Calle. <\/p>\n To top it all off, the movie is directed by action icon Joe Carnahan, responsible for classics like The Grey, Smokin\u2019 Aces, Narc and more. But with this cast and Netflix\u2019s reach, this may be his highest profile movie\u2026ever? Here\u2019s the synopsis:<\/p>\n \u201cUpon discovering millions in cash in a derelict stash house, trust among a team of Miami cops begins to fray. As outside forces learn about the size of the seizure, everything is called into question — including who they can rely on.\u201d<\/p>\n So, the question I posed in the headline. Is it worth watching? We have seen many Netflix action movies fall on their face, but The Rip seems to be great. With dozens of reviews in, it currently has a very solid 84% on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>, albeit with no audience score in yet. <\/p>\n We can compare The Rip to other Netflix original action movies, and it has nearly set a Rotten Tomatoes record in the action genre. <\/p>\n Rebel Ridge \u2013 95%The Rip \u2013 84%The Old Guard \u2013 80%Extraction 2 \u2013 80%Triple Frontier \u2013 71%Army of Thieves \u2013 69%Army of the Dead \u2013 68%Badlands Hunters \u2013 67%Extraction \u2013 67%Havoc \u2013 67%The Grey Man \u2013 46%The Mother \u2013 43%Outside the Wire \u2013 37%Red Notice \u2013 37%Back in Action \u2013 31%The Old Guard 2 \u2013 27%Rebel Moon: A Child of Fire \u2013 22%Polar \u2013 22%Rebel Moon: The Scargiver \u2013 16%<\/p>\n There may be more I\u2019m missing, but I think I\u2019ve gotten every high profile Netflix original action movie here, and I cannot find anything higher than the current score of The Rip, short of Rebel Ridge, which yes, I would absolutely say deserves the number one spot. I think the Extraction movies should be higher, personally.
