Oxford United are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Jamie McDonnell on a long-term contract from Premier League side Nottingham Forest.<\/p>\n
The 21-year-old arrives with significant senior experience, having spent the first half of this season on loan at Mansfield Town, where he made 25 appearances across all competitions and established himself as a key figure in League One.<\/p>\n
McDonnell also enjoyed a highly successful loan spell with Colchester United during the 2024\/25 season, winning the club\u2019s Young Player of the Year award and earning a place in the League\u2019s Team of the Year for his influential performances in midfield.<\/p>\n
A Northern Ireland international with two senior caps, McDonnell goes straight into the squad for Tuesday\u2019s Sky Bet Championship fixture against Queens Park Rangers.<\/p>\n
Speaking after completing his move, McDonnell said: \u201cI\u2019m very excited to be here and to get started at Oxford United. It\u2019s a Club full of ambition, and that was really important to me as I sign a long-term deal.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel I\u2019ve learnt a lot from my loan spells and grown with every step I\u2019ve taken so far. I\u2019m ready to challenge myself at this level now and give everything for the team.<\/p>\n
