Stellan Skarsg\u00e5rd has said people are working behind the scenes to find ways of bringing Meryl Streep\u2019s Mamma Mia<\/a> character \u201cback from the dead\u201d.<\/p>\n

Speculation over\u00a0Mamma Mia 3 has been rife in recent years, with producer Judy Craymer saying back in 2020 that \u201cthere was meant to be a trilogy\u201d<\/a>. The original adaptation of the ABBA<\/a> jukebox musical came out in 2008 with the sequel, Here We Go Again,\u00a0arriving in 2018.<\/p>\n

Following his recent win for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his performance in Sentimental Value at the Golden Globes<\/a>, Skarsg\u00e5rd addressed Streep\u2019s future in the franchise.<\/p>\n

In 2018\u2019s prequel-slash-sequel, Streep\u2019s Donna dies off-screen from an unspecified illness. Skarsg\u00e5rd, who played Bill, one of Donna\u2019s former flings, said of her potential return: \u201cShe can be brought back from the dead.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody can be brought back from the dead in the movies \u2013 and in the movies, she\u2019s fantastic,\u201d Skarsg\u00e5rd said, per People<\/a>. \u201cA lot of people are working on it, to bring her back.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Other actors involved in the films have heavily hinted that they too could return. Christine Baranski, who played Tanya Chesham-Leigh, had previously said <\/a>that she had met with producer Judy Craymer to discuss the project, and a few months later, Pierce Brosnan<\/a>\u00a0revealed\u00a0he had also met with her<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Last year, Sabrina Carpenter was also linked to a role in a possible third outing of the hit frnachise<\/a>, speculation fuelled by an interview Craymer gave Deadline<\/a> at the time, when she hinted that the \u2018House Tour\u2019 singer could be involved in the film too.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere last year, franchise star Amanda Seyfried<\/a> further stoked the rumours by saying she\u2019d like Carpenter<\/a> in a third iteration of the movie \u2013 as well as her Housemaid co-star Sydney Sweeney<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Now, in a new interview with\u00a0Entertainment Tonight<\/a>\u00a0at the Governors Awards, Seyfried was asked about where a third\u00a0Mamma Mia\u00a0film was up to. \u201cMaybe I\u2019m just naive, but I\u2019m pretty sure\u00a0Mamma Mia 3\u00a0is a done deal,\u201d she told the outlet.<\/p>\n

She then added: \u201cI love portraying a mum, so I would love to see Sophie [her character in the film] with her kids. Maybe she has a cousin she hasn\u2019t seen in a while, and that could be Sabrina Carpenter. And then Sydney Sweeney could show up.
