Defending their comments, Butt went on to suggest that their comments were meant in jest and Martinez was being too soft by taking them to heart.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen someone gets so upset about someone in the media or a podcast to start saying they can do what they want and come to my house and all that, grow up. <\/p>\n
\u201cIf you are going to get so emotional about someone saying that about you, you shouldn\u2019t be at a big club. He will get that at the rest of his career at United, there will be ups and downs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is no personal issue with us and Martinez.\u201d<\/p>\n

Paul Scholes has his say<\/p>\n
Paul Scholes added his view: \u201cThe point we were trying to make was physically they are a mismatch. Possibly we could have worded it better. I don\u2019t know. It doesn\u2019t sound brilliant when you watch it back, but we are just having a laugh.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019ve got to give him credit, he was brilliant.\u201d<\/p>\n
Scholes added: \u201cAt United at some point you are going to take some criticism. You are going to have to deal with that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Butt went on to make the point that they did not overreact to criticism during their playing careers \u2013 but the landscape is very different now with social media.<\/p>\n
Scholes added: \u201cI think we ought to take a bit of credit for his performance.<\/p>\n
\u201cI haven\u2019t changed my opinion yet, I\u2019m still not sure you can win a league with him. He\u2019s got to do it over a period of time.\u201d<\/p>\n
