A critical incident has been declared at Colchester Hospital(Image: EssexLive)<\/p>\n
A hospital trust serving patients in Essex has declared a critical incident due to significant pressure. The East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) is experiencing an increased demand for services.<\/p>\n
The NHS trust runs hospitals in Clacton, Colchester, Harwich and Halstead, as well as Aldeburgh, Felixstowe, Hartismere and Ipswich. They also operate a number of local clinics.<\/p>\n
Earlier this month, NHS England suggested Christmas and New Year gatherings might have caused a “bounce back” in winter viruses. ESNEFT has encouraged people to use hospital services “wisely” during the period of a critical incident.<\/p>\n
Adrian Marr, interim Chief Executive at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust, said: \u201cLike many hospitals across the country, we are seeing increased demand for our services. There is significant pressure on our hospitals, and we have declared a critical incident at the Trust.<\/p>\n
“Our dedicated staff are working very hard to continue to offer safe, compassionate care for our patients, and our volunteers are also supporting teams. We’re really grateful for everyone bearing with us during this busy period. Patients’ families are playing an important role by supporting their loved one return home when they’re well enough, which in turn helps free up beds for the next patient who needs our care.<\/p>\n
“Please use our services wisely at this time. If appropriate, please speak to your pharmacist or use NHS 111 for advice.
