Cardinals<\/a> have shared a new single called \u2018I Like You\u2019 \u2013 you can listen to it below.<\/p>\n

The song is the latest preview of the Irish indie band and NME Cover stars<\/a>\u2018 debut album, \u2018Masquerade\u2019<\/a>, which is released on February 13 via So Young (pre-order\/pre-save here<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Arriving today (Monday January 19), \u2018I Like You\u2019 is a romantic, accordion-led track that has already become a fan favourite at Cardinals\u2019 recent live shows.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the first song we wrote with the album in mind,\u201d explained frontman Euan Manning. \u201cAfter a very long period of not working on anything, we started and finished this some bright morning last February in our practice studio.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to say that \u2018I Like You\u2019 \u201cfelt cathartic, a completely grounding moment after feeling slightly lost for months\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first lyric [\u2018Don\u2019t change your hair for me, if you still care for me\u2018] is stripped\/paraphrased from the tune \u2018My Funny Valentine\u2019,\u201d Manning continued. \u201cI don\u2019t think it was written by Chet Baker<\/a>, but that\u2019s the version we know.\u201d<\/p>\n

He was referring to Baker\u2019s version of the classic\u00a0jazz standard, which has also been covered by the likes of Frank Sinatra<\/a>, Kenny Rogers<\/a>,\u00a0Elvis Costello<\/a> and Miles Davis<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The song follows on from the group\u2019s previous singles \u2018Big Empty Heart\u2019<\/a>, \u2018The Burning Of Cork\u2019<\/a>, \u2018Barbed Wire\u2019<\/a> and the \u2018Masquerade\u2019<\/a> title track.<\/p>\n

Last year, Cardinals appeared on the soundtrack for Netflix\u2019s House Of Guinness<\/a>, from\u00a0Peaky Blinders<\/a> creator Steven Knight. They also opened for Fontaines D.C. at their massive gig in London\u2019s Finsbury Park<\/a> over the summer.<\/p>\n

Speaking to NME for last week\u2019s edition of The Cover<\/a>, Cardinals reflected on being part of the current wave of sucessful Irish rock bands \u2013 including Fontaines D.C.<\/a>, Sprints<\/a>, The Murder Capital<\/a>,\u00a0NewDad<\/a> and Gurriers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s always been good Irish music,\u201d Manning said. \u201cIt\u2019s had a commercial surge now, which is great. People are definitely benefiting, but I don\u2019t like to see us lumped in. Aside from the fact that we\u2019re Irish, I don\u2019t see we have much in common musically with a lot of our contemporaries.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve always been pretty insular as a band. We want to do our own thing, which in a way is not nice, because I think there\u2019s value in community. It would be nice to be really friendly with all these Irish bands, always hanging out, but I don\u2019t think it\u2019s in our nature.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also discussed his past comments about the band planning to make a \u201cclassic\u201d album<\/a> with their forthcoming debut.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike, what is a classic album?\u201d Manning told NME. \u201cClassic albums are different for different people.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know whether it\u2019s a classic or not \u2013 it\u2019s not up to me. But I\u2019m really proud of us. I\u2019m really proud of the record. Personally, in my heart, it\u2019s a classic. It\u2019ll always be there for me, whether I\u2019m in love with it or if I\u2019m hating it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cardinals created an NME playlist to accompany their Cover interview, too<\/a>.
