Elon Musk\u2019s\u00a0xAI\u00a0announced a\u00a0$20 billion\u00a0Series E\u00a0round\u00a0and Sam Altman\u2019s brain\u00a0computer interface\u00a0startup Merge Labs raised a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2026\/01\/15\/openai-invests-in-sam-altmans-brain-computer-interface-startup-merge-labs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">$250 million seed round<\/a>\u00a0(with OpenAI as the lead investor) in\u00a0the\u00a0first few weeks of 2026,\u00a0so signs\u00a0point to another strong year.\u00a0Of course,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0still\u00a0early;\u00a0we\u2019ll\u00a0be watching to see if the momentum continues.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are all the U.S. AI companies that raised $100 million last year:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">December:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Austin, Texas-based\u00a0Mythic, which builds power-efficient\u00a0compute\u00a0for AI, raised a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mythic.ai\/whats-new\/mythic-to-challenge-ais-gpu-pantheon-with-100x-energy-advantage-and-oversubscribed-125m-raise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">$125 million venture round<\/a>\u00a0that was led by DCVC. The round was announced on December 17 and included SoftBank, NEA and Linse Capital, among other investors.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Chai Discovery\u00a0announced a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/12\/15\/openai-backed-biotech-firm-chai-discovery-raises-130m-series-b-at-1-3b-valuation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">$130 million Series B round<\/a>\u00a0on December 15. The round valued the company that\u00a0builds AI models for biotech and drug discovery at\u00a0$1.2 billion. Oak HC\/FT and General Catalyst co-led the round.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Generative media platform\u00a0Fal\u00a0announced its third funding round of 2025 on December 9. This\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/12\/09\/fal-nabs-140m-in-fresh-funding-led-by-sequoia-tripling-valuation-to-4-5b\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">$140 million Series D round<\/a>\u00a0was led by Sequoia and valued the company at more than\u00a0$4.5 billion.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Unconventional AI\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/12\/09\/unconventional-ai-confirms-its-massive-475m-seed-round\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">announced a monster\u00a0$475 million seed round<\/a>\u00a0led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and Andreesen Horowitz\u00a0on December 8.
