The UK Government\u2019s new Warm Homes plan aims to deliver \u00a315bn of public investment and upgrade up to 5 million homes by 2030.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0plan will target assistance at\u00a0low-income families and\u00a0support consumer choice to allow for technologies that work for what people want.<\/p>\n
Homeowners will be able to apply for\u00a0government-backed,\u00a0low and zero interest loans to install solar panels, batteries, and heat pumps. Low-income households and those in fuel poverty could receive support to cover the full cost of having solar installed on rooftops \u2013 alongside new rules to ensure landlords upgrade properties to cut bills for renters.<\/p>\n
Solar\u00a0panels\u00a0will become standardised, as set out in the Future Homes Standard, to be implemented in early 2026, with the aim to triple the amount of solar on domestic rooftops by 2030. A \u00a37,500 universal grant for heat pumps and an air-to-air heat pump offer to cool homes in the summer will also be offered.<\/p>\n
Prime\u00a0Minister, Keir Starmer, said:\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cA warm home\u00a0shouldn\u2019t\u00a0be a\u00a0privilege,\u00a0it should be a basic guarantee for every family in Britain.\u00a0Today\u2019s plan marks a turning point. It will help to slash energy costs and\u00a0lift up\u00a0to a million people out of fuel poverty.\u201d<\/p>\n
Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said:\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWith this investment, we embark on a national project to turn the tide\u00a0\u2013 waging war on fuel poverty and taking another step forward in tackling the affordability crisis\u00a0for families throughout Britain.\u201d<\/p>\n
Adam Scorer, Chief Executive at\u00a0National Energy Action,\u00a0said:\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople struggling in fuel poverty desperately need the Warm Homes Plan. Cheaper energy costs, efficient heating\u00a0systems\u00a0and homes that keep the warmth in are all essential for the plan to succeed. There is a lot of work to be done, but today\u2019s publication and commitment to lift a million households out of fuel poverty is a welcome, landmark occasion.\u201d<\/p>\n

Finally, we have a government pledging to deliver the millions of home upgrades that the British public need.
