\n Cygnet St Williams, a 12-bed neuropsychiatric facility run by Cygnet Health Care in Darlington, received the top rating for the ‘well-led’ category following a Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection in November 2025.\n<\/p>\n
\n The site as a whole was rated ‘good’ overall.\n<\/p>\n
\n Patients, carers and inspectors praised the service for its kindness, compassion and life-changing care.\n<\/p>\n
\n Inspectors said staff were described as “kind and respectful”, with carers noting “significant improvement in their loved one\u2019s presentation”.\n<\/p>\n
\n Interactions between staff and patients were observed as “discreet, respectful and responsive”, with staff providing “help, emotional support and advice at the time they needed it”.\n<\/p>\n
\n Patients spoke highly of the care they received, with one saying: “They have got to know me in-depth. Since I came here, I have been thoroughly diagnosed\u2026 it\u2019s the best thing in the world for me.”\n<\/p>\n
\n Another added: “All the staff are brilliant.”\n<\/p>\n
\n A third patient said: “I have not met a single staff who hasn\u2019t had a positive, supportive attitude.”\n<\/p>\n
\n Carers also shared positive experiences.\n<\/p>\n
\n One said: “When he came here I was stressed and used to visit every day. Staff said, \u2018you are welcome here every day.\u2019 Now I know he is in good hands.”\n<\/p>\n
\n Another carer said: “We are involved in his care; it\u2019s a two-way thing.”\n<\/p>\n
\n Patients told inspectors they had access to daily activities including swimming, fishing, gardening and trips to the seaside, and that staff encouraged them to maintain contact with family and friends.\n<\/p>\n
\n The CQC said that exceptional leadership and a strong organisational culture contributed to the outstanding rating for ‘well-led’.\n<\/p>\n
\n The report stated: “Service leadership was exceptional and distinctive. Leaders and the service culture they created drove and improved high-quality, person-centred care.\n<\/p>\n
\n “The service was exceptional at fostering a positive culture where people knew they could speak up and their voice would be heard.”\n<\/p>\n
\n Staffing levels, teamwork and development were also praised.\n<\/p>\n
\n The CQC said: “The service made sure there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff, who received effective support, supervision and development.\n<\/p>\n
\n “They worked together well to provide safe care that met people\u2019s individual needs.\n<\/p>\n
\n “The service was exceptional at treating people with kindness, empathy and compassion and in how they respected people\u2019s privacy and dignity.”\n<\/p>\n
\n Care plans were described as “personalised, holistic and recovery-oriented,” with patients and, where appropriate, relatives involved in decisions about treatment.\n<\/p>\n
\n Inspectors also recognised the service\u2019s focus on independence and wellbeing.\n<\/p>\n
\n The report said: “The service always supported people to manage their health and wellbeing to fully maximise their independence, choice and control.”\n<\/p>\n
\n Ward activities were found to promote a healthy lifestyle, with patients encouraged to join walking groups, sports, and cooking sessions.\n<\/p>\n
\n Other activities included board games, music events, horse therapy, visiting a local reptile shop, and visits to train museums.\n<\/p>\n
\n Alison King, Cygnet Health Care manager, said: “This inspection outcome reflects Cygnet St Williams\u2019 continued commitment to delivering safe, compassionate and person-centred care underpinned by strong leadership and a positive, inclusive culture.\n<\/p>\n
\n “We are committed to creating a safe, respectful and empowering environment where people feel listened to, supported and encouraged to achieve their goals, and this report is a testament to the strong culture we have built together.”\n<\/p>\n
\n Safety was noted as a core strength.\n<\/p>\n
