The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority has objected to the latest project in the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/wirral\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Wirral<\/a> Waters area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">David Lloyd Leisure, the largest health, fitness and leisure company in Europe, sent plans to <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/wirral-council\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Wirral Council<\/a> in April 2025 for a <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/new-gym-open-up-former-31394355\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">new club at Wirral Waters<\/a>, the major regeneration project for the docks between <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/birkenhead\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Birkenhead<\/a> and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/wallasey\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Wallasey<\/a>. If approved, the gym would be located on the site of the former Bidston Dock off Wallasey Bridge road.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/16m-investment-david-lloyd-gym-32483073\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Wirral Waters<\/a> developer Peel Waters said the new club would create 100 new jobs when finished. Across six acres, people would be able to enjoy <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/new-gym-open-up-former-31394355\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">three weather-protected tennis courts<\/a>, heated indoor and outdoor swimming pools, an indoor and outdoor spa, a sports hall with two indoor courts, a new gym, a children\u2019s play area, and a caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">David Lloyd\u2019s plans also include six canopy-covered padel courts. Padel is a racket sport of Mexican origin that has become popular in recent years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The plans are set to come before Wirral Council next week at a planning meeting on January 29. Councillors are being recommended to approve the application with a number of conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Bidston councillor Liz Grey is supporting the plans noting \u201cthe benefits of exercise\u201d and asked \u201cif there would be a discount for local people\u201d. However two objections have also been received.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Wirral Wildlife Trust want further information on botanical, invertebrate, and reptile surveys. The Liverpool City Region has \u201can objection based on potential drainage impacts that could affect the Mersey Tunnels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">No objections were made to the plans from a number of key organisations including the local flood authority, the Environment Agency, Natural England, United Utilities, and highways.
