Yeni Kuti, daughter of Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has reacted to the ongoing dispute involving singer Wizkid and her brother, Seun Kuti, calling for calm and unity amid the growing tension.\n<\/p>\n
In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by TVC Entertainment on Thursday, Yeni said she deliberately avoided engaging in the exchanges surrounding the feud because of her personal relationship with Wizkid.\n<\/p>\n
\u201cI love Wizkid a lot. Wizkid is my padi. When two giants fight, it is the grass that suffers,\u201d she said.\n<\/p>\n
She explained that her long-standing relationship with the singer made it difficult for her to take sides or participate in the insults being traded.<\/p>\n
\u201cI refuse to enter some of the insults they are hurling because I love Wizkid a lot. He is my small friend. We have come a long way together,\u201d she said.\n<\/p>\n
Yeni recalled Wizkid\u2019s early days in the music industry, noting that she had known him before his rise to fame.\n<\/p>\n
\u201cI remember when he started at the Shrine. He was a backup singer at the Shrine during the liberation,\u201d she said, adding that this history made it impossible for her to harbour resentment towards him.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is no way I can ever not like Wizkid. I like him,\u201d she added.\n<\/p>\n
Addressing the feud, Yeni said she wished the situation had been addressed earlier to prevent escalation.\n<\/p>\n
\u201cI wish at the beginning he had quickly put a stop to it, but he didn\u2019t. Let\u2019s mend fences. We are one people,\u201d she said.\n<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are just about to go and celebrate our icon at the Grammy and you are all doing this as if you are trying to dirty something. It is not Fela or the Fela family you are trying to dirty. It is Nigeria,\u201d she said.\n<\/p>\n
Drawing a comparison with other global music icons, she added, \u201cYou don\u2019t see Bob Marley people doing that.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cWhichever way you look at it, he started a genre of music. He is an icon. If you have a problem, why are you attacking him? He has done his own. He has gone.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
She noted that Fela\u2019s continued relevance decades after his death reflected his enduring impact.<\/p>\n
\u201cFela has been dead for 27 years, and people are still mentioning his name. That is the answer to his greatness,\u201d she said.\n<\/p>\n
She concluded by urging restraint and respect, advising critics to focus on present issues rather than attacking those who had already made their mark.\n<\/p>\n
The feud escalated earlier in the week after Wizkid addressed the online clash between his fans, popularly known as Wizkid FC, and Seun Kuti.\n<\/p>\n
The disagreement began after Seun accused Wizkid\u2019s fanbase of disrespecting Fela\u2019s legacy by comparing the late Afrobeat icon to the Grammy-winning singer.\n<\/p>\n
