The rapper, who now goes by Ye, took out a full-page advertisement to print his apology, addressed \u201cTo Those I\u2019ve Hurt,\u201d in Monday\u2019s edition of The Wall Street Journal. <\/a> <\/p>\n The apology comes four days before the release of his upcoming album, Bully, leading some critics to question the motives behind the statement\u2019s timing.<\/p>\n \u201cI hope he\u2019s sincere but how convenient since Bully is supposed to drop,\u201d one wrote on X. Another added, \u201cI think the Kanye apology would be more effective if it didn\u2019t come 4 days before his album drops.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIdk, sounds like he’s got a whole lot of excuses to try and ease his conscious, but exactly 0 mention of making amends or attempting to undo the damage he caused,\u201d one Redditor said.<\/p>\n open image in gallery<\/p>\n Kanye West has blamed his offensive behavior of recent years on a brain injury (AFP\/Getty) open image in gallery<\/p>\n Ye met with a New York rabbi in November and told him he was \u2018taking accountability\u2019 for his past actions (X\/Rabbi_Pinto_Official)<\/p>\n In Ye\u2019s lengthy message, the disgraced superstar claimed that neurological damage caused by a near-fatal 2002 car crash<\/a> was responsible for his concerning behavior in recent years, including antisemitic public rants<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cTwenty-five years ago, I was in a car accident that broke my jaw and caused injury to the right frontal lobe of my brain,\u201d Ye, 48, wrote. \u201cAt the time, the focus was on the visible damage\u2014the fracture, the swelling, and the immediate physical trauma. The deeper injury, the one inside my skull, went unnoticed.\u201d<\/p>\n The Grammy-winning artist<\/a> wrote that the \u201cpossibility of a frontal-lobe injury\u201d did not come up until he was later diagnosed with one in 2023. <\/p>\n Ye said he believes his brain injury also added to his struggle with bipolar disorder, which he was diagnosed with in 2016<\/a> while he was married to Kim Kardashian<\/a>. You feel like you\u2019re seeing the world more clearly than ever, when in reality you\u2019re losing your grip entirely,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n The rapper described the condition<\/a> as \u201cpersuasive\u201d and said that he felt \u201cunstoppable,\u201d writing: \u201cThe idea that you might need help is almost impossible to accept.\u201d<\/p>\n open image in gallery<\/p>\n Ye said his wife, Bianca Censori, encouraged him to seek help for his mental health last year (AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n He went on to say that he regrets the things he said and did while spiraling during his manic episodes, writing that he \u201clost touch with reality\u201d and \u201cgravitated toward the most destructive symbol I could find, the swastika, and even sold T-shirts bearing it.\u201d<\/p>\n Ye explained, \u201cOne of the difficult aspects of having bipolar type-1 are the disconnected moments – many of which I still cannot recall – that led to poor judgment and reckless behavior that oftentimes feels like an out-of-body-experience. <\/p>\n \u201cI regret and am deeply mortified by my actions in that state, and am committed to accountability, treatment, and meaningful change.\u201d<\/p>\n He added: \u201cIt does not excuse what I did though. I am not a Nazi or an antisemite.
