{"id":392474,"date":"2026-01-27T04:30:09","date_gmt":"2026-01-27T04:30:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/392474\/"},"modified":"2026-01-27T04:30:09","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T04:30:09","slug":"artist-daisy-richardson-presents-new-exhibition-in-greenock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/392474\/","title":{"rendered":"Artist Daisy Richardson presents new exhibition in Greenock"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Daisy Richardson, 50, is presenting \u2018We were all made in Burning Stars\u2019 at Beacon Arts Centre.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Daisy\u2019s work explores ideas of time and space, the formation of the earth, and human history and our place within it.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The exhibition title references the scientific idea that the elements which make up our world &#8211; and ourselves &#8211; were formed in ancient supernovae.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"\/>Daisy Richardson and her structure The Yellow Bunker. (Image: Alex Craig)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Daisy, 50, said she tries to look at the formation of the earth by using things that we see in everyday life.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She said: \u201cI have been thinking about these concepts for a really long time.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI\u2019m really interested in meteorites, and trying to connect the idea of the massive cosmos to us; ancient civilisations and their view of what was happening out there.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI\u2019m always trying to grapple with who we are and where we came from.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img  \/><\/p>\n<p>\n  <img  \/><\/p>\n<p>\n  Daisy, who is the daughter of artists Danny Osborne and Jenny Richardson, said it\u2019s fitting that most of her exhibition is on show at the Beacon.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She said: \u201cThe centre looks across to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dumbartonreporter.co.uk\/local-news\/dumbarton-news\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dumbarton<\/a> rock which is the remnant of a volcano, and is a big part of the formation of the land as we see it today.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThere are landscape elements within my work but it\u2019s not a standard representation of landscape.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThe Beacon is such a lovely space.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img  \/><\/p>\n<p>\n  <img  \/><\/p>\n<p>\n  One of Daisy\u2019s creations, The Yellow Bunker, is on show at The Wyllieum.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The structure is inspired by a book called \u2018The Public and The Bomb\u2019, written in 1981 by her grandfather Major General Frank Richardson, and by the Edwin Morgan poem \u2018Theory of the Earth\u2019.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Daisy said: \u201cIt\u2019s the model of the interior structure of what would be underground.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI made it from fabric and wood, and the markings from the creation of it are still there.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI want it to look like it\u2019s something that\u2019s human and handmade, to show the fragility of the people sheltering in the bunkers.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Daisy grew up in Comrie in the southern Highlands and gained a Bachelor of Arts at Glasgow School of Art.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  After she graduated, she took a space in Glasgow Independent Studio in Trongate before moving to London where she gained her Master of Arts at the Royal College of Art.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img  \/><\/p>\n<p>\n  <img  \/><\/p>\n<p>\n  She said growing up in Comrie which is on the Highland Boundary Fault and experiences small-scale earthquakes, made her think about our connection to the earth.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Daisy added: \u201cI could hear the odd bang and I was always aware of things moving around.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The Glasgow-based artist will be giving a talk about the exhibition on February 4.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She said she hopes her art can be enjoyed on a lot of different levels.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Daisy added: \u201cPeople are usually quite intrigued by my work.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cSome of it can be a bit difficult to read but I always have titles that can help people to find a way in.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cPeople can approach the pieces from a purely aesthetic point of view but there are layers and layers.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cYou don\u2019t need to know everything about them to enjoy them.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u2018We were all made in Burning Stars\u2019 will run until Saturday, February 14.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Daisy Richardson, 50, is presenting \u2018We were all made in Burning Stars\u2019 at Beacon Arts Centre.
