Scott McTominay has reflected on his time under Michael Carrick after watching his former coach guide Manchester United to wins over Premier League title contenders Man City and Arsenal.<\/p>\n

After emerging from Manchester United\u2019s academy<\/a> and becoming a first-team star, Scott McTominay<\/a> was sold to Napoli in August 2024.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a piece of business that remains debated to this day, especially given how McTominay performed in his first season under Antonio Conte<\/a> at Napoli.<\/p>\n

McTominay cost Napoli a mere \u00a325.7m before guiding them to the Serie A title in his first season and winning the league\u2019s MVP award<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Scotland international even earned recognition at the Ballon d\u2019Or awards with a nomination. This led many United fans<\/a> to believe it was a mistake to sell McTominay.<\/p>\n

Still, it\u2019s been fascinating to watch McTominay become a true star in Serie A.<\/p>\n

McTominay and his Napoli teammates are preparing to face Chelsea in the Champions League<\/a> on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

The Italians are enduring a difficult European campaign, with Conte eager to get a win over his former employers.<\/p>\n

Victory is crucial for Napoli, who sit 25th in the current Champions League standings, just outside of the play-off places.<\/p>\n

McTominay was side-tracked in the pre-match press conference because some of the questions focused on his former coach, Michael Carrick<\/a>, taking charge at United.<\/p>\n

The Reds beat Man City and Arsenal in Carrick\u2019s first two matches and will be looking for a third consecutive league victory when Fulham visit Old Trafford<\/a> on Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s such a great guy, Michael,\u201d McTominay told reporters, as per Sky Sports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve got so much respect for him. Him, Kieran McKenna, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer helped me so much in that period where they were at Manchester United.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish them nothing but the absolute best. The two results they\u2019ve had have been amazing, especially for me to watch.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very proud of the players and long may it continue. The big ones against Arsenal and Man City are important, but it\u2019s the games that are not so easy that are away from home against newly promoted teams or teams of so-called lesser stature, which are probably just as important.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, for me I\u2019m looking forward to watching them and continuing to do well. I\u2019m wishing them all the best.\u201d<\/p>\n

Scott McTominay recalls brace against Chelsea<\/p>\n

McTominay will be hoping to inspire Napoli to victory on Wednesday night, but it wouldn\u2019t be the first time he tasted a win over Chelsea if that was the case.<\/p>\n

In December 2023, McTominay twice fired United into the lead as they beat Chelsea 2-1 in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

When asked about the goal, the Scotland international told reporters ahead of Napoli\u2019s upcoming match (via Corriere dello Sport<\/a>): \u201cI remember that match at Old Trafford, but it was a long time ago. <\/p>\n
