TAIPEI (TVBS News) \u2014 Taiwan tennis star Hsieh Su-wei (\u8b1d\u6dd1\u8587) and her Latvian partner Jelena Ostapenko lost in the women’s doubles quarterfinals at the Australian Open on Wednesday (Jan. 28), falling to the Canadian-Brazilian duo of Gabriela Dabrowski and Luisa Stefani. The No. 3 seeds lost 1-6, 6-7 (5-7), ending Hsieh’s bid for a 10th Grand Slam title and third consecutive Australian Open women’s doubles final appearance. The defeat came after more than an hour of play at Melbourne Park.<\/p>\n
Hsieh and Ostapenko struggled in the first set, failing to capitalize on break points and conceding it 1-6. The Taiwanese-Latvian pair regained form in the second set, overcoming an initial break to tie the score at 6-6 and force a tiebreak. However, they failed to seize the opportunity to serve out the set in the tiebreak, ultimately losing 6-7 (5-7) and exiting the tournament in the quarterfinals.<\/p>\n
Hsieh captured the Australian Open women’s doubles title in 2024 alongside Belgium’s Elise Mertens and finished as runner-up last year with Ostapenko. Taiwanese player Wu Fang-hsien (\u5433\u82b3\u5afa) and Japanese partner Eri Hozumi also exited in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, losing to Belgium’s Elise Mertens and China’s Zhang Shuai (\u5f35\u5e25).
