Bruce Springsteen<\/a> has released a new song dedicated to Minnesota\u2019s largest city as a response to \u201cthe state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis<\/a>\u201d and the recent killings<\/a> of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by ICE<\/a> agents in the city.<\/p>\n

In a message<\/a> shared on social media, Springsteen explained: \u201cI wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It\u2019s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good. Stay free.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Streets Of Minneapolis, a new song from Bruce Springsteen posted on the singer\u2019s YouTube channel on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The song\u2019s lyrics paint a picture of unrest, noting how \u201ca city aflame fought fire and ice \u2019neath an occupier\u2019s boots\u201d, a force Springsteen identifies as \u201cKing Trump\u2019s private army from the DHS\u201d.<\/p>\n

A particularly somber moment comes when Springsteen honors the victims directly, singing: \u201cThere were bloody footprints \/ Where mercy should have stood \/ And two dead left to die on snow-filled streets \/ Alex Pretti and Renee Good.\u201d<\/p>\n

Political commentary has long been a part of Springsteen\u2019s work and public persona. Earlier this month, he condemned the administration\u2019s \u201cGestapo tactics<\/a>\u201d related to an increased presence of immigration officers during a concert, warning that the nation\u2019s founding principles \u201chave never been as endangered as they are right now\u201d.<\/p>\n

At the performance in his home state of New Jersey, Springsteen also paid tribute to Renee Good by dedicating his 1978 song The Promised Land to the 37-year-old woman who was fatally shot by an ICE officer in Minnesota<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The musician has been a critic of Donald Trump since before his first term, telling<\/a> a London audience in October 2016 (a month before Trump won the presidential election for the first time): \u201cIt\u2019s a terrible thing that\u2019s happening in the States. He\u2019s undermining the entire democratic tradition.\u201d<\/p>\n

At a show in May<\/a> in the UK, he said: \u201cIn my country, they\u2019re taking sadistic pleasure in the pain they inflict on loyal American workers. They\u2019re rolling back historic civil rights legislation that led to a more just and plural society. They are abandoning our great allies and siding with dictators against those struggling for their freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n
