Two months ago, Quentin Tarantino slammed<\/a> Paul Dano out of the blue, calling him \u201cthe weakest f***ing actor in SAG.\u201d Actors, writers, and directors from across Hollywood immediately came out to defend<\/a> Dano, but the actor didn\u2019t respond\u2026until now.<\/p>\n

Dano on Tarantino<\/p>\n

At a 20th-anniversary screening of Little Miss Sunshine at the Sundance Film Festival<\/a>, Dano was finally asked about the many people who came out to support him in the wake of Tarantino\u2019s comment. \u201cThat was really nice,\u201d Dano told Variety<\/a>. \u201cI was also incredibly grateful that the world spoke up for me so I didn\u2019t have to.\u201c<\/p>\n

Toni Collette, who co-starred alongside Dano in Little Miss Sunshine, responded a little more forcefully: \u201cAre we really going there? F*** that guy! He must have been high\u2026 it was just confusing. Who does that?\u201c<\/p>\n

Little Miss Sunshine directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris also chimed in, with Faris noting, \u201cYou know what was interesting was the people coming out to defend Paul. There was immediately\u2026 he is loved by so many. He is so smart.\u201c<\/p>\n

What Tarantino Said About Dano<\/p>\n

Tarantino was speaking on Brett Easton Ellis\u2019 podcast to discuss his ranking of the best movies of the 21st century. When it came to Paul Thomas Anderson\u2019s There Will Be Blood, the director noted that it would have appeared higher on the list if not for Dano\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, it\u2019s supposed to be a two-hander. But it\u2019s also drastically obvious that it\u2019s not a two-hander,\u201d Tarantino explained. \u201c[Dano] is weak sauce, man. He is the weak sister. [Daniel] is eating him [alive]. Austin Butler would have been wonderful in that role. He\u2019s just such a weak, weak, uninteresting guy. Daniel Day-Lewis shows that he doesn\u2019t need a strong foil. The movie needs it. He doesn\u2019t need anything. It\u2019s supposed to be a two-hander and it\u2019s not! \u2026 you put him with the the weakest f***ing actor in SAG? The limpest dick in the world?\u201c<\/p>\n

Tarantino also mentioned Owen Wilson and Matthew Lillard in the same interview, saying he didn\u2019t care for either as actors.<\/p>\n

Look, we all have actors we\u2019re not into, but Tarantino\u2019s comments felt way harsher than they needed to be. Yeah, that\u2019s his whole thing\u2014the guy doesn\u2019t filter himself\u2014but the massive outpouring of support for Dano probably made him rethink that take.<\/p>\n
