According to Kim Kardashian, she and mum Kris Jenner deleted photos of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at Kris’ birthday party from social media after the royals realised they had been “silly”<\/p>\n

Kim Kardashian has shared the real reason she and mum Kris Jenner removed photos of Prince Harry<\/a> and Meghan Markle<\/a> from their Instagram after Kris’ 70th birthday.<\/p>\n

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had attended the reality TV star’s birthday party but photos of the couple were quickly deleted from Kim and Kris’ social media posts. Amongst the Kardashians<\/a>, the incident is now called “Photogate”. Speaking on her sister’s podcast Khloe In Wonder Land, Kim shared why she had to remove the photos – and it’s all to do with Remembrance Day.<\/p>\n

“It was really innocent, which is so crazy,” Kim explained before refuting rumours the photos were deleted as part of falling out between Kris and the Duchess. “Mum and Meghan have been friends for some years now, and they have a really sweet relationship.<\/p>\n

“We were told that it was totally cool to post. And then after it was posted, I think they realised it was Remembrance Day and they didn’t want to be seen at a party, even though it’s already up, you know, and then taken down. And then I think they realised, like, ‘Oh this was so silly.'”<\/p>\n

Harry and Meghan had also been seen at the Baby2Baby charity gala that day, but Kim said that while “that was fine”, the couple may not have been okay with images of them “partying and dancing on the dance floor or whatever” remaining online. “So we took them down to respect Remembrance Day.”<\/p>\n

Kris’ 70th birthday party was held on the night of Saturday 8 November, the night before the royal family<\/a> and politicians gathered at the Cenotaph in London for Remembrance Sunday.<\/p>\n

Kim continued to say that she had to “laugh” at the situation and “lean in” to it, even suggesting they turn “Photogate” into a SKIMS campaign. “You got to laugh at, like, the situation sometimes and just, like, lighten it up and be if everyone\u2019s taking it the wrong way, like, lean in.<\/p>\n

“I was like, \u2018We should do a full Skims campaign.\u2019 Take the photo \u2014 even just us, like, I\u2019ll shoot you at mom, you know, post it and then delete it, like, 30 minutes later. And then I say, \u2018Oh, sorry, I didn\u2019t have permission to post those photos for the campaign.'”<\/p>\n

She added that she “hated” how the incident was viewed online: “If we just made it light and made it funny, you know, I think it would have been, like, received differently, but I hated how that was received for everyone. That sucks. It was just made into something that was so crazy and ridiculous that just didn\u2019t have to be.”<\/p>\n

Despite Kim’s insistence that they did have permission to vote, a source told PEOPLE<\/a> at the time that Meghan and Harry said no to having photos posted. The source said the Sussexes checked “no” on a photo consent form. However, a source close to the James Bond themed event told the same publication that there were no consent forms.<\/p>\n

The Mirror<\/a> reached out to the Sussexes for comment.<\/p>\n
