It feels like it came out years ago, but we\u2019re actually only nearing the first anniversary of Heart Eyes, Screen Gems\u2019 Valentine\u2019s Day-themed slasher from director Josh Ruben (Scare Me, Werewolves Within).<\/p>\n
Heart Eyes quickly gained a cult following with word of mouth propelling the film\u2019s box office to an even stronger second weekend, a rare feat for pretty much any movie. It would end its run at $33M worldwide, opening the door for sequel conversations. <\/p>\n
In the film, a masked maniac with glowing, red eyes returns every Valentine\u2019s Day to slaughter unsuspecting couples. When a cynical ad executive and her hopelessly romantic colleague become the next target, they decide to fight back and end the reign of terror. It starred Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding.<\/p>\n
With Valentine\u2019s Day just weeks away, DREAD CENTRAL is hearing exclusively that Ruben is sharpening his knife for a Heart Eyes sequel and has recently completed a script.<\/p>\n
Ruben is also prepping for Wilderness Reform, another Paramount project announced late last year<\/a>.<\/p>\n No word on when this will go into production, but a sequel has not yet been officially announced, so this is welcome news. <\/p>\n Last February, Ruben shared his vision on how he would approach a sequel\u2026or sequels.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ll put it this way: You could replicate the structure of any great rom-com, from His Girl Friday to Defending Your Life, and you could drop Heart Eyes into the center of that story, and have him flash and slash about,\u201d he told Variety<\/a>. <\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s what\u2019s exciting about this: There\u2019s an opportunity that we could have whoever the filmmaker was \u2014\u00a0certainly, I\u2019d be interested \u2014 genuinely trying to create or replicate that rom-com, or the\u00a0feeling\u00a0of a Bridget Jones or Love Actually or what have you, but actually have those people terrified by this psychopathic killer.\u201d <\/p>\n Keep your eyes on Dread Central.
