A boy was stabbed in the leg with a baiting needle at a school. Merseyside Police were called to St Mary\u2019s College in Wallasey<\/a> at around 2.25pm on Friday, January 30, after receiving reports that a pupil had been stabbed in the leg with a baiting needle, commonly used for fishing.<\/p>\n The injured boy was taken to hospital for treatment to a puncture wound and remains in a stable condition. Witnesses reported seeing around seven police cars and an ambulance at the school gates following the incident.<\/p>\n The force said a 13-year-old boy from Rock Ferry was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent<\/a> under Section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act. He remains in police custody and is due to be questioned.<\/p>\n Officers attended the school to carry out initial enquiries and to provide reassurance to pupils, staff and parents following the incident.<\/p>\n Inspector Ian Wild said: \u201cI know pupils, parents and the wider community will be shocked and saddened to hear a young boy has come to harm in this way at school.<\/p>\n \u201cThe use of any sharp object to inflict harm on others is, of course, never acceptable.<\/p>\n \u201cWe will continue with our enquiries into this incident and provided support to the school into next week through our schools officers and the Safer Schools Partnership.<\/p>\n \u201cWe visit schools right across Merseyside all year round to spell out the dangers of using knives and other weapons, and the serious consequences that both victim and offender can face.
