Telegraph predicts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Great Britain is on the \u2018cusp of an economic boom and credit expansion\u2019, according to a report in the Telegraph. <\/p>\n<p>Yes, the paper that has championed such glittering prime ministers like Boris Johnson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelondoneconomic.com\/politics\/telegraph-claims-truss-had-a-democratic-mandate-to-tank-economy-343076\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">and Liz Truss<\/a> and would often be right at the top of a list of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelondoneconomic.com\/news\/media\/the-telegraph-is-not-coping-well-with-a-labour-government-378500\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">anti-Labour publications<\/a> is predicting that good times are ahead of the UK.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/business\/2026\/01\/28\/britain-on-cusp-economic-boom-no-thanks-to-labour1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Writing in the publication<\/a> this week, International Business Editor Ambrose Evans-Pritchard said the British economy was showing signs of being in the \u201cearly stages of a powerful cyclical recovery, and perhaps the highest growth rates for a generation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>READ NEXT: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelondoneconomic.com\/politics\/uk-economy-turning-a-corner-under-labour-402571\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Is the UK economy finally turning a corner under Labour?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Evans-Pritchard said this was down to debt in the private sector plummeting, along with British households paying off huge amounts of mortgage debt. <\/p>\n<p>This means the country appears to be sitting on \u201cthe coiled springs of a pent-up credit boom,\u201d which is \u201clikely to reshape the political landscape beyond recognition over the next three years,\u201d Evans-Pritchard writes. <\/p>\n<p>He pointed to the fact that the UK is now one of the least indebted countries in the developed world and the private sector now has an \u201cextremely healthy balance sheet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But if you were expecting the Telegraph to give Labour some credit for this though, you\u2019ll be disappointed. <\/p>\n<p>According to Evans-Pritchard, this looming economic boom has little to do with Government policies, although he admitted it would likely be Labour who benefit from it. <\/p>\n<p>Other factors that play into the potentially positive outlook for the economy are the lowering cost of oil and gas because of a global supply glut and expectations that inflation will drop to 2 per cent by April. <\/p>\n<p>This would clear the way for a cut in interest rates to 3pc this year.<\/p>\n<p>However, Evans-Pritchard said this boom would be reliant on Britain fully embracing artificial intelligence. <\/p>\n<p>The UK\u2019s industries of services, finance, life sciences, and technology are an ideal fit for the quantum gains from AI,\u201d he wrote. <\/p>\n<p>Overall, Evans-Pritchard reckoned that a \u201csustained burst of 3 per cent\u201d growth is not out of the question for the British economy. <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not all doom and gloom then!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Great Britain is on the \u2018cusp of an economic boom and credit expansion\u2019, according to a report in&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":399985,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[11],"tags":[84,1294,33958,2261,56,1893,54,55],"class_list":["post-399984","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-economy","tag-business","tag-economy","tag-headline","tag-telegraph","tag-uk","tag-uk-economy","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/399984","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=399984"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/399984\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/399985"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=399984"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=399984"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=399984"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
