A documentary about Glasgow residents who came together to resist a Home Office immigration raid has won a major international award at the Sundance Film Festival. <\/p>\n

Everybody to Kenmure Street was awarded the World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award for Civil Resistance, which recognises films demonstrating exceptional courage and impact in documenting civil resistance around the world.<\/p>\n

The film documents how hundreds of Pollokshields residents gathered in May 2021 to prevent the detention and deportation of their neighbours during a dawn raid by the UK Home Office.<\/p>\n

Featuring crowd-sourced footage filmed on the day and set-designed scenes, the documentary details the eight-hour stand-off, which saw hundreds block off Kenmure Street.<\/p>\n

Actors also relay verbatim testimonies from those who were at the demonstration, who wish to remain anonymous.<\/p>\n

Scotland-based Chilean-Belgian filmmaker Felipe Bustos Sierra, who directed the film, said he was \u201cdelighted\u201d by the award.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs filmmakers we are only vessels for what happened on Kenmure Street.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a joyful, vibrant film because it was a joyful, vibrant protest and I cannot wait to watch it in a cinema with Scottish audiences.\u201d<\/p>\n

Producer Ciara Barry added: \u201cThis is such an amazing honour. We are so proud of the film, all its collaborators and its message of peaceful protest and our collective power to be the change that we want to see in the world.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks to everyone who supported, believed in and funded the film.\u201d<\/p>\n

Two-time Oscar winner Emma Thompson, an executive producer on the film, previously described the documentary as \u201cbeautiful and powerful\u201d, highlighting its message of collective decency and action.<\/p>\n

The film premiered earlier this month as part of Sundance\u2019s World Cinema Documentary Competition, screening on the opening day of the festival.<\/p>\n

Everybody to Kenmure Street will have its UK premiere at the Opening Gala of the Glasgow Film Festival on February 25, before being released in selected UK and Irish cinemas from March 13.<\/p>\n

Everybody to Kenmure Street was supported by Screen Scotland, a successful Kickstarter campaign and Scottish trade unions.<\/p>\n
